This is pretty much the most excitement I’ve had in a long time. Things are crazy around here right now. My stomach lining has decided to eat itself because I haven’t eaten all day…why…because all our kitchen stuff is packed. We’re officially moving in to our new apartment tonight and I am beyond thrilled!!!!

Of course, it’s going to be sort of like camping for the first couple days (maybe weeks, depending on how our finances look). We don’t have a refrigerator, we don’t have chairs for the kitchen, or a couch to sit on. We need to buy little things like can openers, a cutting board and probably a vacuum cleaner too. I’m sure we’ll realize what else is missing as soon as we’re moved in. We have a bed though, we’ll have our own space and we’ll have a pool on the roof…and that’s what really matters.

Taking the first load of stuff to our apartment last night, as we drove past bars, restaurants and shops that are all within walking distance from our new place, I just felt such a wave of happiness. Our life is really changing for the better with this big move. We’ll finally be free from invasive family members. And we’ll be right in the thick of things which will be so great for Seba and I. Something we struggle with a lot is that I always want to go out and do things since I work from home and I’m in the house all day long. And he never wants to go out because he’s walking around outside for work all day long every day. A big part of that is because where we live there is nothing by way of restaurants or nightlife (unless you count a strip club about two blocks away where every single man in this neighborhood eats lunch). So for us to go out, the closest available entertainment is at the very least a half hour away, if not more most of the time. Now we’ll be able to go out and come back all within an hour or two which used to be the time we’d spend in transportation alone.

Anyways, point being, I’m HAPPY!!!!

I am packing up my computer now and the internet people don’t come until tomorrow, so until then au revoir.

  2. WOOHOO!!!

Yeah- we lived in the apartment above my in-laws for two years when we first got married. It’s TOUGH. I even had to go to counseling with my M-I-L to recover, but that’s another story.

Congrats! I hope that running is a better experience far, far away from the local strip club!

  3. Congrats!! I’m really excited for you about your new place. Once you get moved in and settled let us know how you like it.

We’re moving back into our house next month if we don’t sell it by the end of the year (which isn’t very probable). I’m dreading a longer commute again, changing my address, and the taxes associated with moving back, but I’m really looking forward to having the extra space and not paying rent anymore!

  5. Congratulations on the find. That’s great…and sounds fabulous!

And the “camping” part will be fun, I’m sure. And sure you’ll remember it years later, too. (I still remeber the smell of the carpet from my apartment in LA…for our whole first week we had NO furniture, including beds, so my roommates and I all slept on the living room floor!)

  6. I’m so happy for you guys!!!

I can’t imagine how frustrating it must have been sometimes to have your inlaws living close to you guys… if they’re anything like mine I would have gone off the deep end by now!

Don’t get me wrong, my PIL are really nice people…. TOO nice in fact… they live 50km outside of Paris and still they are always trying to help us without us even asking (hubby’s mom used to come to our apt. on her lunch brake while we were at work and clean up our place, or his dad would pay our car insurance w/o even telling us!!)…this would drive me bezerk… like they had violated our intimacy and worse yet, made us feel like kids that couldn’t take care of ourselves!

It’s gotten better with time (and us being pretty out right franc with them telling them this pissed us off!) Plus, when we moved into our new place a couple of years ago I told hubby no way we were giving them an extra set of keys… and if there is any advice I can give you, my dear, that is it!

For the rest, so happy you guys will be living in a more lively part of town. It’s so cool to have a little restaurant around the corner you guys can go when neither is in the mood to cook, or that “tiendita de la esquina” where the vendor knows you, etc…

    Happy moving!

  8. Dear Dear Kyle
So great news – which comuna are you moving to???
I am now so sad that I didn’t took the time to meet up when I was In Santiago last month (typically me out of shyness….) Next time I am back I will be sure to give you a call. I absolutely fell in love with santiago and the chileans and am indeed struggling my mind on how to find a job there. I realise it has been a struggle for you, but hey I try to think nothing is impossible. Jep, I am reading “The secret” i.e. think positive thoughts and you will get what you wish for.
Take care and congrats with everything!
    Love Caroline
