I finally got my act together and cleaned up the apartment so that it would look acceptable in pictures. Get ready for a long post with way too many photos :) I had to use my fisheye because I don’t own any other kind of wide angle lens. Needless to say, the fisheye lens really distorts things (and makes everything look way bigger than it is). The place is a one bedroom, it’s about 35 square meters. We thought about renting two bedrooms but didn’t end up finding a two bedroom we liked, and I’m so glad! When we moved into this place we realized we don’t even have enough stuff to fill up a one bedroom. Half our kitchen cabinets are empty, and in the bedroom, the only furniture we have is a bed. Neither of us are pack rats either so every time we consider buying a night stand or another dresser, we both just kind of shrug it off, like why bother when we don’t really need it.

First off, the little details that I love:

The remote control holder in the armrest of the futon is so convenient:

Here’s the actual futon itself, which was an incredibly generous gift from my in-laws (we picked it out and they paid for it).

The light fixtures move and can be pointed in any which way, so it makes for some dramatic lighting.

We paid extra just to get our glorious fridge in silver rather than white.
IMG_6878

Our patio is just big enough to fit two chairs, where we sit and talk in the evenings when S. gets home from work.
IMG_6879

I’m kind of obsessed with this wine holder. It’s so cool!
IMG_6867

There’s a tiny little alcove that is supposed to hold a microwave but I’d rather use it to display spices. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved different spices. Also, I like the silverware thing that we got. It’s fun to have forks and knives out hanging as part of the deco, rather than hidden away in a drawer!

Here is poor S.’s tiny little closet.
IMG_6909

And here’s my giant closet…MWAHAHAHA! As you can tell, we’re both extremely neat and organized people :)
IMG_6906

Both the bedroom and the living room open onto the little patio.
IMG_6910

The bar serves as a kitchen table and a work desk for me :)
IMG_6900

The furniture we brought from our old house conveniently matches the floors and countertops perfectly! You can see the paintings that we haven’t hung up yet, mostly because we don’t want to put holes in the wall.

Bird’s eye view of the bathroom:

(and right after this photo was taken, if you were in the apartment you would’ve heard my shrieking “OH MY GOD MY HAIR IS ON FIRE!!!” at the top of my lungs. The light bulbs in our bathroom create some serious heat. Good to know.)

Here’s what things look like when you first walk in.

And here’s from the other side, looking in from outside on the patio.

One last view of the kitchen and then we’re done.

  3. I love it! It’s not huge but it’s got nice lines and everything looks so new and clean. When I found my last 3 apartments I rented them based on the fact that they “had good energy”. Your place has good energy too!

I love the hardwood floor and the wood furnishings all over the place.

You rarely find that here as wood gets really nasty with the humidity or insect invasions. Most stuff is tile and cement. Not really “warm” feeling.

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Not only does your apartment look GORGEOUS but your PICTURES ARE FABULOUS!!!

Living with a “obsessed with finding the right light fotographer” I have gotten used to pictures that explore a single blown up detail of an object and your pictures are lovely. Love the spices pic!

Ok, back to the apartment, everything looks so neat, and clean, and new and cozy. Enjoy your and hubby’s new appartment… years from now when you’ll be living in a bigger place filled with junk that you don’t need you’ll find yourself saying “remember when we used to live in that tiny apartment?, how DID we do it?” LOL

  9. I thought my place was 45m2 and if that place is 35m2 then I am mistaken and mine is 15m2! Your place is huge! Great size/layout and lovely and sparkling new. A bit of a hairdo fire is worth not having the MIL walk in on you at all hours!

  10. I love it!

Do they have 3M velcro down there? I use it to hang pictures in our completely concrete house. It’s fantastic.

  11. Very cute and very modern! I love all the clean lines, it’s important if a space is sort of small. Also- it looks good for entertaining another couple, the kitchen is pretty big for a small apt.

Our first apt. together was SMALL- only one person could be in the kitchen at a time because they took an old bathroom and split it into bath and kitchen- that’s small. But we liked it.

  12. It’s so cute, and I don’t mean that in a tiny way, but in an adorable way. I really like the kitchen and the patio. Believe it or not, your kitchen is bigger than mine! I’ll be so glad when we can move into a house again.

And I know how tough it is to get a picture in a small bathroom, in any bathroom unless you’re living in some kind of luxury house.

  13. A very nice apartment, congratulations indeed. However, your pictures make me realize that I’m more than a little ignorant about things like Santiago… My expectations of a small apartment in Chile did not prepare me for images which would be comfortable in a Sharper Image catalogue and I wonder if this is a fairly standard apartment or if this is a more modern building… Or maybe it’s just the wine holder and dangling silverware that’s throwing me off…
