Watch the video to find out who won the contest! There were almost 90 people who took the survey so I decided to give away two sets of postcards. I made the first video and drew a name out the hat then decided afterwards to have a second winner. So I drew that name out off camera but made a second video in which Papito announces the second winner.

Congrats to those who won, I’ll be email you shortly to get your address so I can ship the postcards to you on Monday!

  1. Is it too late now that the survey is closed to request more videos on your blog? I guess I just did so there you go.

  2. aw you have a cute voice!
damn, sucks i didn’t win. where did you get post cards printed btw?

oh yeah and another thing i forgot to ask is why you didn’t ever consider teaching english. i have been there, done that and realize it is kind of looked down upon to teach english i suppose because it is so commonplace for expats to do that. definitely not a “cool” job. it ain’t so bad in japan though because you can make a decent salary! do you just dislike teaching or you think it is lame-o or what?

  3. Rachel, haha, all requests are now close :P Kidding!

Kathleen, I don’t look down on teaching at all, in fact, most of friends teach English. I just HATE teaching anything. Over the years in the states people were always trying to get me to tutor students because I was good at school and I just couldn’t do it. Zero patience. I also had student loans in the states and right in the beginning my monthly payment was almost $500 bucks. Now it’s only three hundred and something, but anyways, a good salary for teaching English if you’re lucky here would be $800 dollars here. If you’re lucky. So basically I couldn’t really afford to be a teacher either. If I were teaching we’d most definitely still be living at my in-laws. Yikes!

  5. i hear you. definitely no good if you don’t have the patience! plus student loans are a bitch. i didn’t realize the pay was so low in chile. i thought it was better than here. it sounds the same. that is the same reason why i won’t teach here, ever, unless it is because i get my masters to teach at an intl. school because the salary is very good. i don’t want to put my daughter in daycare for the kind of salary teachers make at the institutes! i’d rather work the random jobs i’ve been finding online.
btw i hope you dont mind if i email you. i wanted to ask you some questions about your travel blog.

  6. Kathleen, can you get a job at some kind of high school in Ecuador for more pay? I know in Chile the schools pay much better than the institutes, but the most gringas work at institutes because schools in general try to hire people who are here more long term.

Email away and I’ll try to answer whatever I can!

  8. Kyle,

The pay at the private colegios here is about the same as at the institutes. The only high paying teaching jobs are at international schools catered to children of diplomats and employees of huge corporations but to work there, it’s back to school! The perk though is that if I do eventually work at one of those schools my daughter can go for free. Otherwise they cost a small fortune.
