So, this is a call to all of you who answered my survey saying you read this blog because you’re thinking about moving to Chile (out of 90 people, almost 15 said that’s the reason they JMCS).

If you could ask an expat woman in Chile anything, what would be?

The survey got me thinking quite a lot about you guys (or should I say, ladies as 80% of you are female), the readers and what kind of content would be helpful for you. So, I am going to try an experiment and do some blog interviews with other expats living in Chile to give you all something other than just my perspective. We need to get outside Kyle’s box. :)

Depending on how that goes over maybe later I could expand the interviews to be with expats living in other countries, but for now I think we’ll start out with just this country. I’d also like to get into interviewing some of our Chilean readers as I think they too add a unique perspective.

So, two things: I would love it if you would leave a comment with a question you’d like to know about the expat life here in Chile. And, if you are interested in being interviewed let me know as well! Also, try to ask questions that are specific to the person’s life, i.e.”How has your standard of living changed since moving to Chile?” rather than, “How much does it cost to live in Chile?”

  1. im normally pretty bored and get a kick out of question answering, so i can be interviewed if you need!
thats neat 15 people are considering moving here. whats weird is i feel like i’m always saying “its a small world” here, and if they moved here they’d probably end up meeting a bunch of the other people that read this sooner or later.

  2. Hi Kyle, I stumbled across your blog a few days ago (don’t quite remember how)and it’s great! I’m moving to Chile in January, so it’s been really helpful to read. I actually do have a question. I’m trying to make a budget and was wondering how much you all spend on food in one month. The first time I was in Chile I lived with a host family who fed me, and the second time I went a little overboard on the eating out so I don’t think what I spent was very accurate. I also imagine that prices have gone up somewhat since I was last there (January ’08) So basically, what’s your grocery bill like? Thanks!!

  3. I just started a blog so that I can post on here because I love reading your blog so much so I’m definitely open to being interviewed. Although I’m not as veteran as some of the expats down here in Chile, I have lots to say so I think that may make up for a bit of it :)

  6. Hey, I wouldn’t mind being interviewed. I haven’t been here for long, long, just 8 months and 3 months last year, but I have learned things and seen things I never thought I would.

  7. Good lord, looks like we’re all bored expats who want to talk about our lives! But then again, I guess we knew that since we all have blogs :)

  10. Dear Kyle
First of all, I can’t believe you actually understood my last post – full of typos etc.

Secondly, I am with all these people writing you pretty amazed that you actually remember me – I feel kind of bad that I stood you up in November when I was in Santiago, but I was so busy for the whole stay! Sorry!
December/January is the plan and I intend to stick to it ;o) even though it scares me a bit once in a while…I am especially concerned about the job hunting part as January and February are not exactly the best months to be jobhunting in Chile. I am wondering what I as a dane with my qualifications could be doing in Santiago and unfortunately I can’t be living off my savings for very long. I am not picky when it comes to work but I also have to admit that I would like to work with something that is slightly relevant to my field. I resigned last week so no matter what, I have to start thinking about how to put bread on the table in the future, but it was a necesarry step…otherwise nothing will never ever happen ;o)Any suggestions and/or ideas are welcome ;o)
I will see you soon and will continue to follow your blog….I am addicted ,o)
Love C (-who’s also looking forward to meeting you!)
Pd. will a non-american gringa by any chance be admitted into your Sex in the Ciudad group? ;o)

  11. How exciting about being in the US for Christmas! Where are you headed? Florida? Michigan?

I hope to go back to PA for the Xmas break, it will probably depend a bit on Oscar’s employment.

I do really want a pet. Oscar does not. We really need to wait until our money situation is more secure. Even though they aren’t as expensive as a kid…they still kinda are!

  12. My burning question: Which milk, by brand and variety, tastes closest to 2% reduced fat milk sold in U.S. grocery stores?

    Comment by L. — September 5, 2008 @ 8:01 pm

  13. Haha, L. I wish I could help you but I hate milk so to me it all tastes the same: gross!

  14. From my presonal experience, What about, whats it like to be single in Santiago? Or why would a single girl come to Santiago? All of you seem to be married or engaged to a Chliean and thats your only reason for being here.
