You guys. I am AMAZED. Mystery solved.

The Russian delurked!!!! Never in a million years did I think that post would actually work. She’s married to a Chilean (just like me!) who found his way all the way from Moscow to Punta Arenas. She’s not blond, she’s not a mail order bride, nor does she drink vodka as she reads JMCS. :) Read her delurking comment here.

I think it is SO COOL that I could write that post and get a response back. Just goes to show that the world is a small one after one.

I’m amazed. My mind has been blown…seriously. I love the internet.

  2. Get ready for the insanity Amanda. You will be surprised at how people find your blog and the ridiculous things they search for!

  3. Technology has indeed made the world small. Between what genetics teaches us and what we can now do via the Net, we all have to think of other countries the way we think of other cities within our own countries. It’s that – or disaster.

Just thought I’d throw in some cheerfulness for the weekend.

  4. Wow, I had no idea how many people read my blog who aren’t in our little blogging community. Crazy! I got a Russian, last night, too. I assume it’s the same. :) Welcome.

  5. Amanda – “READ my blog” is over-stating it a bit. It IS surprising how many people show up at blogs. Once you have been around for awhile, you’ll get a decent amount of hits almost no matter what.

But keep your eye on the stat that shows how LONG they spent at the blog. You’ll find a high percentage of them stay for 1 minute (or less, since it doesn’t break it down into seconds). Another good stat to keep your eye on is “page views”. So if they come, read something and then check out other posts, you have a “reader”.

I think a lot of the “hits” are generated by search bots, that are programmed to search for key words. Once they enter your blog and find that it isn’t what they were set up to look for, they just hop out and resume their search.

  6. Haha, John, you are just a ball of sunshine and happiness today aren’t you? :P

Amanda, yes, John is right. Actually if you use Google Analytics, they have the best, most complete data of any of the stat counters that I’ve found. They’ll actually show you your bounce rate, which is how many people search for something, find your blog, are on your page for a few seconds and leave.
