There is one famous public school where many of Chile's leaders attended, but that is hands down, the exception to the rule. Public schools, much like in the U.S. are funded locally. Marcelo is from a poor neighborhood, meaning the school in that neighborhood was really bad. <br/><br/>He's also been out of school for I think 5 years. He graduated from a "technical high school," meaning not even as a good as a regular public high school, and started working when he was 18.
