  1. Oooh. I think it’s a good idea, but I forget exactly which topics we’ve done?

What about biggest culture shock upon first arriving to Chile/Latin America?

  2. I think it would be fun to either

1- Do something non-chilean… like my favorite memory from childhood.

    or

2- Do something along the lines of “the biggest misconception I had before moving to Chile was that….”

  3. I like the culture shock idea. Maybe it could be culture shock or reverse culture shock, as in what about your home country do you find hardest to adjust to when you go back?

Other ideas: hardest thing about living abroad/traveling, the most important thing you´ve learned while living abroad/traveling, or having everyone tell a travel story and recommend an awesome place to visit.

  4. i LOVE leigh;s idea of everybody telling a travel story. I;d like to submit a couple dozen votes for that, depending on how many I;m allowed. If its just one, well then count me in twice. (so far, it looks like that ideas winning, right?)
and i dont even ahve a story in mind but i was planning to post about some travel things anyawy! maybe they could go along a theme… best adventure, worst mishap, best place to stay..who knows. i think its a great way to vary from the usual.
anyway if not, … we already did the leave a comment with a suggestion thing so maybe you could repost that poll (oh god, i just typed pole, poal, then paused before i got to it) or take the runner up or something?

  5. I’m down for a group post and like Lydia’s idea about the runner-up from previous polls or posting a new one with the other topics and adding the ones these girls suggested. :)

  6. Hey ladies, the reason I didn’t bring back the poll is because a few times where we voted, topics were chosen and then everybody bitched about them and didn’t want to write them. There’s no way for me to close a poll just to the people who are going to be writing about it rather than having it open to the general audience.

We’ve also already done the winners and several runners up from the poll and I didn’t want to get down to the ideas that nobody voted for. We need something fresh!

  7. i’m down. i dont care which one.

  8. I’m in :) Maybe we can combine some of the ideas and make it the most culture shock you’ve had from a travel experience and what you learned from it.

  9. hehe- maybe we can dedicate a group post to fanny packs- I vote for that :)

OR maybe what our Chilenos think about our gringa blogs and what they would blog about if they had one :)

  11. I like culture shock or the experience traveling ideas the best!

Clare’s childhood memory idea also intrigues me. Actually so does the misconception about Chile idea.

Basically, I’m down for just about anything!

    Comment by Abby — April 21, 2009 @ 11:13 am

  12. Cincinnati Chile…lmao! Blog about fanny packs!

I also like Leigh’s idea about writing about traveling as I assume most of us since we live abroad have some experience traveling.

Plus, I Like Cincinnati Chile’s idea about what our chilenos think ofour blogs, but some bloggers don’t have a Chilean signifigant other, so you could say like Chilean friends or something.

  13. I don’t know if it’s already done, but you could tell us more about your experience with Spanish, and more specifically, with Chilean Spanish. Was it hard to overcome the language barrier? How did you deal with Chileans mumbling? What do you do when you have no idea what people are saying to you? Is there any funny story that happened to you? any anecdote? When did you become fluent? Do you catch everything your Chilean friends say? What about jokes? and pop culture?

  14. I like the travel or the language stuff. I think we’ve done a lot of complaining and think the best group posts tend to come from positive or learning experiences.

I would have to rule out the idea about what Chilenos/significant others think about our blogs because

    a) I think it’s going to open up a lot of hasty generalizations, biased opinions and sounds like it’s going to tread on gringos vs Chileans territory, something that’s been done a lot already.

    b) Not everyone has a significant other nor can find Chilenos willing to be completely honest and candid about their opinions.

  15. p.s. I also like Clare’s idea about the biggest misconceptions we had before moving to Chile.

  16. Perhaps something like cooking living abroad, or how is the cooking organised in an international couple

    Comment by Carlos — April 21, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

  17. I’m up for anything. I don’t have any new ideas. I’ll follow wherever this goes.

  18. Oooh! Oooh!! I want to write about how much Chileans freakin’ suck at driving.

Apparently I had an extra bad trip back from Santiago today.

    But still, really!

I’ll jump on whatever bandwagon is banded. I just might have to set myself up another blog for being all expat-y.

    Comment by Lauren — April 21, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

  19. I like Carlos’s idea, but I’m all foodie like that.

    Comment by Amanda — April 22, 2009 @ 6:01 am

  20. I liked several ideas:
-culture shock, especially reverse culture shock, a few people mentioned this
-Lydia’s suggestion of a travel story
-Clare’s suggestion of a fave memory from childhood
    -Carlos’s cooking ideas

    Comment by Maeskizzle — April 22, 2009 @ 7:21 am

  21. I like the sharing a travel story idea…and I have a good one already! My second place choice would be the language topic.

I’d rather not talk about favorite restaurants since several of us do that already.
