I wrote about our round the world trip plans and our planned budget a while back. So much has changed since then!!!

S. got fired from his job and I quit all my blogging jobs except one. Then we started receiving a bunch of inquiries for wedding photography this summer in Chile. Originally I recommended people to other photographers and told them we wouldn’t be here. Then it got to the point where I realized we could probably book enough weddings to do photography full time, which has been one of my goals since I started the business. One of my other main goals for this year was to book 12 weddings. Well, including the weddings I’ve already shot + weddings booked for the end of 2009, I’m at 13, plus inquiries coming in every day.  And it’s only June!  I’m not even close to 8 boudoir sessions. I have to admit that I completely forgot about that goal and have been too busy with weddings anyway. Oops!

So, we decided to stay and fotografiar bodas in Chile all summer long! We’ll continue living in Algarrobo at my in-law’s beach house and come to Santiago on the weekends that we have weddings and/or client meetings.

But, first, we have a little trip we have to get out of the way. We’re flying to the U.S. on the 21st of this month. Shooting a ton of sessions and two weddings (one is my best friend Sarah’s). Then we go to NYC to hang out with my blog boss and her family. We met them last year and really hit it off so we are going to visit again, this time for longer than 24 hours.

From there…we fly to Geneva!!!! And then we are going to Italy and France as well. We’ll be in Europe for a grand total of 7 weeks. Not a ton of time so we decided we’ll only try to fit in three countries. I hate running around on vacation stressing out trying to see everything and get another stamp on my passport. I’m more of a slow traveler. I’d rather travel leisurely, take a day off from sight seeing every now and again and just sit on a beach. My mom’s child hood best friend/cousin lives in Geneva. So we are hoping to stay with her although if her husband hasn’t read his emails lately she might not be aware of this yet, haha (Hi Bev!!!)!  Then S. also has cousins in Italy, so off we go to visit them there. And I have an Fned in France and S. has a sister there. Thus concludes, the Just Married European Style tour.

After that, we’re back to Chile mid-October to shoot engagement shoots for the clients who have summer weddings, and our wedding season starts in November!  We’re booking up fast, as of right now we have about two weddings per month November-Feb. That doesn’t leave a lot of Saturdays, so if you were thinking of booking, I’d really recommend doing so in advance. For weddings we’ll be traveling to Buenos Aires and Chiloe though, so we won’t be totally static in Chile. And we may end up going to Torres del Paine or the Carretera Austral in December, as that’s the only month we have nothing booked so far. *Edited to add, ok, just kidding, we’ll be here doing weddings in December too. :) I wasn’t kidding when I said we were booking up fast.

From there, we may be back to the U.S. in March for a potential Las Vegas wedding in April 2010, and then we’re looking for tickets to Asia!

This may not be the Round the World Trip I thought we’d be taking but I think it will be even better. Now I’m able to continue working in photography, which I love, and travel at the same time. I’m PUMPED.

  2. It's great that everything has fallen into place, even if it wasn't what you originally planned… sounds even better! Are you still going to be scoping out possibilities for a place to live while you're in Europe?
    Looking forward to seeing pics!

  4. Lots and lots of flying to do! And it must be so exciting to have lots of weddings to do. I just started getting my photography together again after a year hiatus. But you should definitely get into the boudoir scene.

  5. That's really awesome! You are lucky to be able to travel doing what you love. You will be a world destination wedding photographer.

  6. I loooove the new plan, as you are well aware :)

I know that it doesn't quite fit the original dream of traveling the world for a year straight, but I do think it's great that a) you've been flexible enough to adapt this dream to your new photography dreams and b) as a result, two dreams come true for the price of one! I totally forgot about the boudoir goal too, but it seems like with all these weddings you're both busy and happy, and that's the most important part (even if old, overachiever Kyle would now be trying to convince her friends to take their clothes off just to reach her goal, haha).

  7. Very, very cool. We'll sort of be neighbors when you're not jet setting about the globe and recording peoples memories… ;)

  8. What fantastic news!!! Something to definitely smile about. I might be stopping in Santiago in October. I hope our paths might cross…though it looks like you'll be super busy! If you need any suggestions re: BA please let me know. Un abrazo grande for your exciting news. :)

  9. You know, London is only a short train ride from France – and I'm only 40 mins from London. We have a spare room… ;-) [scary internet stalker] I really want to meet you [/scary internet stalker] and London is amazing. But Italy – wow, my most favourite place ever. Whereabouts in Italy are you going?

Oh, I passed your website address to my brother's friend who's going travelling in S America – told her reading your blog will give her an insight into life in Chile at least.

  10. ummm, Eliza are you sure about inviting us??? I mean truly sure?!? Because
I'd be careful with that if I were you, we really might just take you up on
the offer :) Secondly, if we come, can we do a night shoot in London like
that one that you did??!? Those photos are REALLY cool. I don't do a lot of
night time photography, but you sort of gave me the urge to get out there
and start experimenting a little more :)

off to check prices of train rides from France….

PS. in Italy Seba's cousins live right outside Milan. So we are going to go
there for Milan Fashion Week (I DIE. This is one of my dreams in life! I am
going to stand outside the shows and take pictures of all the important
and/or unimportant but well dressed people coming and going). And then we
want to go to Venice…and a bunch of other places too…we'll see. This
whole trip isn't very well organized yet.

  11. Completely sure, seriously just turn up. Well, ok, let me know first ;-) but yeah, we love house guests. We only have a small house, and 2 horrid children, but we're about an hour and a half from Paris (train to Ebbsfleet international, which is 5 mins down the road) and 40 mins to London. Night shoots in London are such fun!

Milan? Wow! I'm jealous. Never been but Fashion Week would be amazing.

  12. Oh right, I forgot about the Milan Fashion Week part!

I may now be anti-this plan since I am too jealous to support it. Can't wait to see the photos you take!
