I need some help!

I want to get another tattoo. So does Seba. I want mine on the back of my neck. Victoria Beckham and the lovely K inspired me. I want mine written horizontally though, not vertically like Posh. Theirs are both in Hebrew. V.B.’s says, “I am my beloved and my beloved is mine,” which I absolutely LOVE but how trashalicious would it be to get the same tattoo as a Spice Girl???? The hebrew language has no meaning to me, yet I would love to have something beautiful written that people wouldn’t be able to read and know the meaning of unless they asked me, or unless they actually spoke Hebrew.

However, I don’t know what to write. I want an expression about love or travel or karma. I don’t know, something lovely but not hippy or cheesy.

And Seba doesn’t know where or what to get a tattoo of. He already has one on his right shoulder blade. But he wants one too.

So help us out! Any inspiration would be greatly appreciated. What should my tattoo on the back of my neck say? And where should Seba get his?

  1. Yours should say “I love my mom.” and Seba's should say the same thing only be prominently displayed on his forearm or something . . . . . .

  2. Umm… I have no inspiration for you, except to say that I LOVE your usage of the word “trashalicious.” I love how Americans can make up words. On the tattoo: I'm sure whatever you get will be perfect for you!

  3. victoria beckham is badass and so is that hebrew tattoo. it may be borderline trashy but get in anyway if you love it!

  4. I've been wanting a new tattoo as well (I have 4)… Anyway, while I was in Nicaragua I met this girl who was on her way to get a tattoo on her forearm. She was getting, “Not all those who wander are lost” in Spanish. I thought that was SO amazing!!! I'm thinking of getting “La Dulce Vida,” because I'm beyond grateful for the beautiful life I have.

I can't wait to see what you guys get. How exciting! :)

  5. Well, if you like Posh's tattoo and want some more enabling, “I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.” is Biblical first (hence the Hebrew), so you wouldn't REALLY be imitating a Spice Girl. :)

Otherwise, I got nothing. The permanence of tattoos intimidates me, but hope you find something you like.

  6. I have to kind of agree with the rest, if you love it then get it! Spice girls or not. I mean you could maybe add a zigga zig ahhh underneath – you know to make it known you're also aware of the SG irony? :)

  8. Just make sure a few people can confirm what you're getting tattooed if it's in a foreign language. Check out this website for a few cautionary tales: http://www.hanzismatter.com/

  10. I think it'd have to be something a bit shorter than that if you want it horizontal! Tattoos are so addictive, part of me wants another one but since a) I have NO clue what I'd get and b) Rodolfo's not a huge fan unless there's a good reason for one, I don't think it'll happen any time soon.

I have no ideas…tattoos are so personal that I might be able to think of a saying I love, but the odds of you wanting it on your body for the rest of your life are pretty slim. My only contribution is that there are plenty of other languages that look cool and might have more meaning. For example, my friend has a sanskrit tattoo because of that language's relationship to values of compassion. I can also think of arabic, farsi, phoenician, greek…maybe one of those might have a historical or family meaning for you or just align somehow with something you want to represent.

Seba should get a portrait of Papito over his heart, hahaha.

  14. That sounds super cute! I already have one for basically the same idea as your Dulce Vida idea…it's a four leaf clover under a star, like born under a lucky star.

  15. Thank for more enabling. I know it's a Bible verse which is actually another reason I'm sort of hesitant. But, then again, the Bible does have a lot of beautiful writing in it.

  20. Emily, when I told Seba that we should get tattoos the first thing he said was, “We should get 'Papito FOREVER' on our forearms, hahahahaha!!!

You're right, there are lots of pretty languages to look into. I just don't think I have a connection to any of them.
