Thank you all so much for the recommendations that you have been leaving on the posts! There’s only one small problem — the posts aren’t in real time so when you are reading about Italy we are actually in Belgium. We only have a week left and we are doing it hardcore. Over the next couple of days we’ll be in Brugge tomorrow, then Amsterdam for one night, then Luxembourg. So I thought I’d ask for advice ahead of time if any of you have been to any of these places and have any must see or must eat ideas. I know these countries are way less visited though than France, Italy and Ireland though so maybe no one will have any tips. No worries, that’s what Trip Advisor is for.

  1. Oh there's a coffee shop in Amsterdam that looks as though it's been carved out of a tree trunk, as if you're inside the tree trunk, it's blissful, like a wooden cocoon. I don't remember the name of it, though, as it's been a long time since I went to Amsterdam.

Amsterdam's Vondelpark hires rollerskates, always good for a laugh.

You have to do a canal trip, it's clichéd and touristy but you must do it!

Anne Frank's house is sobering and so very sad. A must-do, but get there early, as the queues are quite bad otherwise.

I love Amsterdam, I hope you enjoy it!

  2. In Amsterdam you will, of course, see the red light district and immediate surroundings, but do yourself a favor a see some more of Amsterdam as well. I would head for the Jordaan (across from the red light district, on the other side of the Damrak, the big touristy street which heads south from the central station), and Vondelpark and surroundings.
If you want to see Anne Frank's house then reserve and buy tickets online, otherwise forget about it. You'll spend half the day standing in line.

You might also like the fotography museum (FOAM) and the Van Gogh museum.

  3. Oh, and food in The Netherlands is terrible and woefully overpriced.

Cafe de Jaren has a great terrace and is a good place to have drinks, but avoid their food.

  4. yessssssssss Amsterdam! I have to go back there asap, I loved that city. But it's been a while since I was there and I was with my parents soooo… yeah. But the Van Gogh museum is amazing and I remember eating ridiculously good french fries. I believe we bought them by the canal and showered them with salt and vinegar. There might have been mayo involved as well. Either way, it was awesome. Something on a bike? I don't know, Holland = Bikes always in my mind. Have a blast! (and I know it's your main man's bday super soon! was it just last year that we celebrated together???)

  7. In Bruges, don't forget to go to the lovers´park (that's what its name means in dutch) near the train station, it is very romantic! Have fun in my country. If you have the time, spend a day in Gent as well; it´s just like Bruges, but less dead!
