1:st year in business as a wedding photographer.

10: Family sessions.

2: Boudoir.

15: Weddings.

4: Times in the emergency room.

1: Time in the ICU.

19: Age of the guy who put me there.

2: Best friends got engaged.

3: Continents.

12: Countries.

18: Flights.

16, 413: Number of pageviews this blog got in November, the highest month I’ve ever had.

2: Reality shows people wanted us to be on.

1: That we would actually do.

This year was out of control. In terms of life-changing events, it was HUGE. I still can’t believe we started a wedding photography business, and got to travel all over Europe. A family emergency shook my to my very core. Michael Jackson died. In spite of all that though, 2009 will forever be The Year I Got Hit By a Car. That’s not looking at the year in a negative way, by any means — I actually tend to think about the whole event as a minor miracle, all things considered. But I am not sure anything else that happened will be as burned into my memory as this. I’m pretty sure nothing will ever come close to being as emotionally and physically scarring until the day I give birth. :P

So here’s to hoping that 2010 is bigger and better — and significantly less catastrophic.

After thought. Hmmm, I should probably wait to post this until December 31st. But, this is just what’s on my brain right now. After Brittany Murphy’s death I’m sort of scared of 2009 so I kind of want to go to sleep right now and not wake up until we’re all safe and sound in 2010.

  1. Still can't believe Brittany Murphy's dead…she was my age! Who dies of a full cardiac arrest at 32?

  2. Hey! Hey! Hey! No sleeping until December 31st! I need you to photograph my wedding on Saturday! :) My crazy family will try to have you end your year on an up note!

  3. I am so glad that you're blog is getting the recognition it deserves :) and also that you're business is doing so well – it's only because you're a talented lady.

  4. Kyle

After an incredible long timespan I come to say hi.

After reading this post, I just realized how many things happened to you in 2009, but one was quite shocking (yes, your accident). Well, THANK GOD YOU'RE ALLRIGHT!

And more on a superficial way, which reality show wanted you and S in? It is funny to read that. And well, this recap made me surf into your blog and read the posts about the top 5 reasons to live in Chile (good one about the fanny pack… but what's so bad about them? I use one just when I can't use my backpack 'cause it would be too big to carry and too many things to fit in my pockets) and the “steal him from his mom's house” (has happened to my and my gfriend, actually :$) and the definition of Chile you wrote on january 2009… it was SUBLIME, really poetically beautiful.

Anyways, hope everything is good for you, S and your whole family (and also your photography business)

    Take care

    Gustavo

  5. And well… I almost forgot to tell you: Lots of people died this year. And will also keep on dying (sounds a little bit odd, though). Of course some people were younger than others. But if you think about it, the list is quite impressive:

-Michael Jackson (pedophile or not, made me dance like him when I was 6)
    -Patrick Swayze
-Farrah Fawcett (Charlie's Angels… she was so cute)
-David Carradine (c'mon, he was “Kung-Fu”)
    -Ricardo Montalbán (Fantasy Island)
    And of course Brittany Murphy

And if you look in a more local level, you have:
-Mario Benedetti (great writer, including novels like “La Tregua”)
-Mercedes Sosa (La Negra, great singer and activist for human rights during the different dictatorships that existed in the region)
-Francisco “Chamaco” Valdés (one of the best football players in chilean history) (yes, the word is “football”, not soccer :P )
-Fernando Cornejo (another great football player, he was just 39)

So, as you can see, people die and even though it could shock us more or less it is still part of life.

    A big hug for you

    Gustavo

  6. I think your car accident stays with you because it was the start of your journey, in some ways. And I think it'll stay with you forever. When you give birth, it's huge but, well, hormones make you forget the physical and emotional trauma (usually – one day I promise I'll blog about Ethan's birth!) and you get a baby at the end of it.

You've had an amazing year, but you deserve all the success in the world. Sixteen THOUSAND pageviews – awesome!

  7. I think 2009 has been a crappy year for so many people. I can't wait to put it behind me.

“So here’s to hoping that 2010 is bigger and better — and significantly less catastrophic.” I'll toast to that.

  9. Just so she doesn't let all those page views go to her head, she should probably subtract about 120 of them a month, since as the mom I check the site about 4 x a day!!

  11. Haha, I am definitely looking forward to that! I'm excited to A. photograph your wedding. And B. finally meet Kevin! If I do decide to nap until 2010 I'll wake up for at least a day on the 26th, don't worry :)

  13. Gus! Looooong time no see around these parts! Glad you haven't forgotten all about us :)

Yeah, 2009 was crazy, but good still and I've (almost) made it out alive so thank goodness for that, haha!

Fanny packs just remind me so much of the 80's..it cracks me up that so many people use them in Chile! Yes, they are useful though, I have to admit, I even want one for when I go running so I don't have ot carry my iPod, my water, my keys, all in my hands because sometimes I forgot that I'm holding anything, I drop it, and I don't even realize.

  14. Haha, yes, even I did know about DAvid Carradine and everyone on your celeb list of deaths of course..however, I had no idea bout any of the people on your local level list either.

I know death is a part of life but doesn't it seem like 2009 has taken away more than it's far share of good people?

    PS. Glad you're back!
