The family member we’re currently in the U.S. has decided he’s done with hospitalization today. This morning we went to go see him and he gave us an ultimatum — get me out of here now, or I’ll get out of here on my own. I knew he wasn’t lying and would probably try to walk himself home down the highway if I didn’t help. And he also was only in the hospital because he’s doing so many hours of physical therapy, which he can do as an outpatient. So I complied, packed up his stuff and wheeled him straight out the front door. Funny enough, nobody even tried to stop us.

My brother was wheeling him in the wheel chair, with Seba following close behind. I tried to walk alongside them, but as soon as I joined the pack I was met with cries from all three boys, “No, Kyle! You walk in the front!” It was like a scene from the fictionary sequel to Dumb and Dumber — Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest.

Tonight, after our big prison break moment, we took a break to sit down and rest. I popped in a movie, “Bride Wars, ” with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, only to be met with a chorus of Manly Angry Shouts.

Them: “We’re not watching anything that’s in a pink DVD case.”

Me: “Ummm. (Points at Family Member) You’re currently disabled. (Points at brother) You got here about a week too late. (Points at Seba) And you don’t speak English. By default, I’m in charge. I mean, I’m always in charge, but I’m extra in charge right now.”

When someone gets seriously sick there’s so much to do for them that they can’t do for themselves — deal with their bosses and disability papers and doctors and physical therapists and insurance and the bank. This has been a stressful week. It’s made me act like an adult. Being an adult sucks. So if I want to watch a chick flick, I’m watching a chick flick. End of story.

  4. Haha, you gotta lay down the law sometimes!

It sounds like family member's feeling better though, if he's able to argue and complain, so that's a good sign.

  5. What a lucky dad to have such a wonderful supportive daughter to take care of him! After all the stess you've gone through, you certainly deserve to watch a chick flick if you want to lol!

  6. Sorry, I just want to be clear that I don't know why I referred to your dad. I re-read your post and realized that you didn't mention anything about him. For some reason I just assumed since you said “he” and that you were taking care of him, that it was your dad, but I see that it's not the case. Just don't want to confuse anyone! Sorry!

  7. LMAO. Am happy to hear things are looking up. Isn't it cute when boys get delusions of grandeur and actually think they have options?
