Claire and Esteban’s wedding was an amazing way to start 2010. Claire is a Southern Belle from Tennessee and Esteban is a Southern Gentleman from the deeeeeeeep South — Chile of course. :) Their wedding was an absolute embodiment of Southern charm — they made sure their guests were taken care of, from start to finish. Miss Claire made Gringas around the world proud when she danced an incredible Cueca. Anyone who says that people from the U.S. don’t have rhythm should’ve seen her go. I was SO impressed. She danced as good or better, with as much heart and soul or more, than most Chileans I’ve seen do the Cueca. They celebrated Chile in that moment, as well as shared their life and Esteban’s culture with their guests. And then they made sure to have a rocking cover band that played plenty of killer Michael Jackson songs, 70′s music and more — songs that both Chileans and Gringos love and adore. The party was killer because nobody was scared to get out onto the dance floor.

And I know the care they put into every detail for their guests from around the world didn’t go unnoticed. I’m like a fly on the wall at every wedding I go to, and at this one in particular, I overhead so many guests talking about how much fun they were having, how thrilled they were for Claire and Esteban, and how beautiful the wedding was. Esteban came up to us at one point and said in amazement, “Everyone seems so happy!” He’s right. The entire room was in synch with the newlyweds and just radiated a powerful feeling of joy.

Esteban is really not much of a picture guy — that’s not to say he’s not photogenic, because he is. He just doesn’t love being in front of the camera. But he let us do our thing for a couple shots before the guests started arriving. I got the feeling that he did it for the same reason he does most things in his life — to make Claire happy.

  2. Kyle this is gorgeous work. I think it's really one of your best sets. I love the shot of the Esteban's hand on Claire's lap. It's so simple but expresses so much. You really have an excellent eye for important details. I'm also a fan of your work in post and much of the creative framing you did.

  6. WOW!! These photos are amazing, truly incredible! The bride and groom are beautiful, and their wedding appears spectacular! But…it seems you captured the essence, the spirit, the soul of participants and the day. You are an rare talent! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Gotta love that 28mm lens for the aerial shot of the huasos… Heh! Hmmm, don't forget to do an occasional 2-3 second B shot, you know, the old technique of using the tripod (or monopod) to steady the camera to get a deliberate movement, and shooting with the remote plunger. Ahhh, the old days. Are you using film stock, or are you 100% digital? Got your own darkroom?

  20. Hey Dave! That arial shot was actually taken with a 17-40mm lens, although I have no idea what length it's at for that shot. And I actually do have a couple with movement that I didn't post.

We're 100% digital, definitely no darkroom here, although I do looooove developing in the darkroom, it's so fun! Old skool and totally impractical these days, but fun nonetheless.
