Seba and I had an amazing time photography Keri and Christian’s beautiful wedding in Vina del Mar last night! I can attest to the fact that I have never seen so many people stand up to do heartfelt toasts at a wedding. Never. Keri and Christian met when Keri was studying abroad here as a high school exchange, and they’ve been dating via long distance for the past 5 years. Five years of long distance. If that’s not commitment to make it work, I don’t know what is. It says a lot about the couple that nearly every single person there felt compelled to stand up and talk about how much they are loved and how proud everyone is of them. It was beautiful. And really, I’m pretty sure the toasts only ended because people stomach’s were rumbling!

Anyway, we got back to Santiago around 3:30am and then by the time we got the photos downloaded and backed up we didn’t go to bed until 6am. So I apologize in advance if this post is a little delirious sounding.

When we arrived at the Sheraton where Keri was supposed to be getting ready, she hadn’t arrived from her hair appointment yet. So I ran off to play with the dress. In the mean time, Keri walked in the lobby, looked up, saw it hanging precariously from the stairway rail and thought, “What are those crazy people doing with my dress?!?” And then she realized it was just her crazy photographers :)

When Keri did arrive, she still hadn’t done her makeup or put on her dress yet. It took her 10 minutes to finish getting ready. I think this is a new record for a bride being calm in the face of calamity :P

Keri and her Mom look adorable sharing this little look right before walking down the aisle. And they look so much alike!

Fun story about the priest — he looks a little intimidating, but he’s actually super nice. The ceremony took place in a Greek Orthodox church. Women are not allowed on the alter. Nor are they allowed into the special little room behind the alter. I had asked Keri if there were any restrictions but she hadn’t mentioned that little detail! Needless to say I broke a few rules. The priest was so kind about it. When I found out what I had done I apologized to him afterwards saying I was sorry, and I hadn’t realized that I wasn’t allowed up there and I didn’t mean any disrespect. He smiled back and said, “Today you are allowed. Please don’t worry.” I thought that was really cool of him to be so kind about it — and not at all what I was expecting from an Orthodox priest!

Keri’s brother Ben couldn’t hold it together anymore. I was moved to see how much he loves his sister. And speaking of toasts, both his and Christian’s Dad were tearjerkers. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room after either on.

I swear — I do NOT ask all my groom’s to look under the bride’s skirt! It’s just like some kind of natural male reaction.

After photographing Keri and Christian’s engagement session, I thought it was physically impossible for Keri to smile any more than she already does. Enter Keri’s wedding day :)

I actually like that Ben blinked during this picture. He looks like he’s taking a corporate snooze.

  8. I agree, the first dress shot is so cool. I also really love the one of Christian peeking under the dress in that hammed up perfectly primal stance! Hey, can you explain what is going on in the cake picture? Just curious.

  10. The wedding cake photo: It is a Chilean tradition to place small charms inside the wedding cake for the single women. On the count of three each pulls on a ribon to get their charm out of the cake. Each charm symbolized their fortune. Some of the charms in Keri and Christian's cake were, a baby, meaning you will have many children, a ring, meaning you will marry, an airplane, meaning you will do a lot of traveling. My charm was a coin representing I will have lot of money :-) )
