Huge congratulations to our good friends Sarah and Pipe…they got married this weekend and it was BEAUTIFUL. Pipe and Seba go way to back to their school-age days, while I met Sarah completely separately through Chilespouses. It wasn’t until we met up with our respective significant others that we realized they’ve known each other forever. Even in Chile, the world really is a small place.

And the wedding day was an absolute blast. I really enjoyed myself taking pictures and dancing and eating and being married — but aside from that my favorite part of the day was seeing a different side of Sarah. With her family and friends, the people who’ve known her and loved her, she was more outgoing and confident and laid-back. I mean, obviously it was her wedding day, so she was radiant and more gorgeous than ever before. That might have had something to do with it. But she just seemed more relaxed and more…Sarah. I love that. Some brides get too nervous or too excited to feel like themselves during every moment of the day, but Sarah was natural and happy and herself every second. And Pipe was the same as always — the perfect balance to Sarah.

While the girls were getting ready…the guy went to the Fuente Alemana, haha!

Suuuuuuuch pretty eyes! They have a really cool yellow color, they’re absolutely beautiful. And popped even more than normal with the smoky wedding eye makeup!

Question: How many bridesmaids does it take to put one dress on one bride?

Answer: A lot. Always a lot. :)

The guys got ready at the Crowne Plaza…

And then micro’ed it down to San Ignacio!

Thanks to Sarah and her wonderful bridesmaids (who made me feel like a part of the family all day long!) for being so down for anything that they let me take pictures of them in a bookstore! Random, but SO cool! And for getting ready so very quickly that we were actually ahead of schedule and had tons of time to go out and about photographing.

And in the meantime, Pipe was stocking up on massive amounts of Red Bull at the grocery store. We should always do groom’s portraits here!

Look close, there’s a bride and groom down there!

So funny — they could not get the unity candle lit. No one else could see because they had their backs to the audience but Sarah, Pipe, Seba and I were quietly cracking up.

And then when they went back Pipe got tangled in Sarah’s veil, stepped on it, and they started cracking up again! Times like this are my favorites — when those funny quirky moments happen that make a wedding unique. Love it. I’m sure they’ll never forget this part of the ceremony :)

The Circulo Espanol is a seriously stunning location for weddings in Santiago and it’s conveniently located in the center of the city. Hallelujah for drunk people who take public transportation!

The party was soooooo much fun!!! The dance floor stayed packed all night long and Sarah and Pipe totally let loose and got to enjoy their day. I was so happy for them!

  10. Yay! More wedding pictures!!! I started out reading your site because of our similar experiences and loved hearing about your life in Chile but now I am obsessed with your photos!!! When I see you've loaded a new set of photos it just makes my day! You inspire me to get into photography…which is on my to do list when I get to Chile!

Okay so now for my favorites: I love the dress shot, it's totally different. I love number 5, you always take such great getting ready shots! Number 10 of Sarah's eyes is freaking awesome!! You totally captured the moment in number 10 with all the bridesmaids helping and laughing! Number 13 and 14 in the library are out of this world! The setting is perfect and makes for such unique photos! And of course the church photos are beautiful. Love the photo where Sarah and Pipe are laughing at the later. So cute! You're right, it's moments like those that the couple will definitely remember most.

    Good job!!!

P.S. Glad that the power blockage didn't last too long! You poor people…so many crazy things happening in Chile!

  19. wow, congrats sarah and pipe! and to kyle and seba for the wonderful photos! i really enjoy this set. the bookstore shots are so adorable, and most of any ceremony shots i've seen in a long while i enjoy the ones with the captions of the mini bloopers. i've never thought about that aspect of a wedding and it just makes the moment seem so cute, and them so happy and comfortable to just giggle it off no stress.
that far off shot of the church…wow, what a gorgeous place to get married!

  38. Hi,

I found your blog through Emily's equally compelling blog “Don't call me gringa” and I wanted to say that your photography and social observations are outstanding. I'm a Chilean currently living in NY, and in a bout of homesickness I started reading blogs of Americans in Chile. Why? because in a strange sort of way I obtain a clearer impression of my home country through the eyes of someone not born in Chile, this is because as you view our culture from a different perspective you can see things that is hard for us to see. I was hooked, reading your blog and experiences as well as reading the blogs of other expats in Chile. Congratulation by the way on having successfully made your living and business in Chile, it is obvious that you will excel in whatever you do. From what I've read here about your experiences in Chile, I'm impressed at both your determination and your good heart. Regards, Carlos.

  40. LOL, no, that's not why. At that time we were still actually on time. After the pictures we were just waiting for Tyffanie to call us and tell us when we could arrive!

  43. The church is actually part of the high school that Seba and Pipe went to, isn't that so cool that he got married where be basically grew up?

    Comment by kyleracine — March 22, 2010 @ 5:33 am

  44. We were so lucky that at this church it was easy to get behind and take from a different angle because there were a ton of pillars and plants and things that we could hide behind in order to not be super distracting.
