If you don’t live in NYC you’re probably looking at the title of this blog post wondering why I’m calling my photography DUMBO :) That’s actually a neighborhood in Brooklyn (don’t feel uncool, I didn’t know either). The acronym stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.

Seba and I headed down that way to meet up with Emma, Lydia and Sylvia for a little photo session while we were in New York. It was AMAZING. First of all, Emma is one of my best friends. We met back in the day in Chile. I can honestly say that meeting her, along with a couple other wonderful gringas, literally changed my life. I had been miserable up until that point, until Emma and her cloud of happy stormed into my life.

She’s such a good person, right down to her very core. I love being around her because I feel like some of that rubs off on me!

So Emma decided she wanted to do a photo session with her two best friends from childhood. She, Lydia and Sylvia have known each other since they were in the womb. I admire that. Ever since moving to Chile, I’ve realized what an immense amount of loyalty and love and dedication staying friends through time and over distance requires. Theirs is definitely a friendship worth documenting.

No matter how many subjects I have, I will always find a way to half their faces. It’s classic Kyle Hepp photography :)

This puts a smile on my face. We were re-enacting a picture that these ladies have of themselves when they were toddlers. They cracked up every time. Love it!

Isn’t this picture so cool?!? My girls look like they’re straight out of a magazine. Big shout out to the incredible New York City wedding photographer Ryan Brenizer for teaching me the flash composite method he has so perfected!

Aaaaaand of course this is my favorite. I LOVE this picture. Totally worth standing out in New York City traffic to get it!

  3. Wow! I love the one of their half-faces, and the one where they're looking up through the bars. They should learn some instruments and start a band, because they've got their promotional materials all ready to go!

  4. I've never seen you do a friendship shoot before, great idea! How long are you in NYC? Or did you already leave? If so, I'm going to just miss you AGAIN. I'm headed out there next Thursday.

  5. Wow. How did you do the one with them moving? I'm going to sound like a big dork, but it's sort of like the Harry Potter pictures that move.

  8. Haha, I knew you would like the black and whites! I'll do even more text time for you :)

And we actually didn't take hardly any pictures of the actual city of NYC. We were working the whole time we were there, we didn't get the chance to tourist around much at all!

  10. Love DUMBO, love the light in these photos, love the friendship these girls have, and most of all love your skills! My fave is the one where they're laying down.

  11. haha, Sara, you just came out of the Harry Potter closet! The one with them moving is done with a slow exposure. Basically you leave the lens open more time so it gets more than just one millionsecond of motion freeze, it gets the actual motion.

  12. Thats because we have never done a friendship shoot before, but I loved it! I would definitely do more of them if the opportunity presents itself.

We left NYC on Monday morning, I can't believe we keep missing each other!

  13. I know, right, I need to start marketing them! Although first that would require at least one of them learning to play an instrument or sing :)
