  1. I think you would like Elizabeth Strout. Both _Amy and Isabelle_ and _Olive Kitteredge_ are great. Also Nicole Krauss and Jonathan Safran Foer, if you haven’t read them already! And if you’re at all in the mood for short stories, _Sweet Talk_ by Stephanie Vaughn is by far one of the best books I’ve read in the last year.

  2. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series by Stieg Larsson
The Lost Girls by Jennifer Baggett, Holly Corbett, and Amanda Pressner
    Blue Latitudes by Tony Horwitz

  4. I just finished reading the book “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen. Excellent, unique story with a great twist. Highly recommended!

  6. The Other Hand by Chris Cleave: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Other_Hand – amazing, if slightly dark, book. Left me speechless.

If you want something lighter, I love Nick Hornby books ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=nick+hornby&x=0&y=0 ) – chick lit-like but they’re written by a man. Also, Tony Parsons http://www.amazon.co.uk/Family-Way-Tony-Parsons/dp/0007151241/ref=pd_sim_b_5 and Mike Gayle ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mike-Gayle/e/B000APK8CU/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1 ) – Brand New Friends is so funny.

Have you read any Marian Keyes? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marian-Keyes/e/B000APV464/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1 They’re good, light reading.

And I’m going to plug my friend, Jess Ruston’s, book – http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Jessica-Ruston/dp/0755348524/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1286528177&sr=1-1

  9. You should sign up for GoodReads! You list what you have read, are currently reading and want to read and can see the same lists for your friends, as well as their reviews of books. It’s pretty cool.
I am slightly obsessed with historical fiction, so if you’re into that, these are some books I’ve read recently that are fantastic:
The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
Shogun (also Tai Pan and Gai Jin) by James Clavell
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
The Zanzibar Chest by Aidan Hartley (not historical fiction but really good)

  10. Download the sample for Graceling by Kristin Cashore and see if you like it. It’s a pretty good fantasy story (not so heavy on the fantasy).

Uglies by Scott Westerfield is pretty awesome (Uglies, Pretties, Specials) and it’s similar in feeling to the Hunger Games.

Also Glass Castles by Jeanette Walls.

Here’s my Kindle reading list. The ones that I’ve finished have comments.

  11. The God of Small Things
    Sixteen Pleasures
I second the Steig Larsson trilogy–so good, even though it is annoyingly popular. I asked for recs a while back and got a bunch that are now on my list.
