Andi told me I should go back and blog more about Spain and the Amazon because I didn’t really ever get much of a chance to do so. Because I think she’s smart, I’m going to :) Obviously I already talked about how ridonkulous Anna and Andrew’s wedding was, but I didn’t post a ton about anything else.

I’m going to start with something that’s normally the mundane part of every trip we take — the actual traveling in and of itself.

The Madrid Airport is the coolest I’ve ever been. It’s design is incredible. I want nothing more than to go back and shoot a photo session in it. How easy do you think it would be to get special government permission to *gasp* take pictures inside an airport with no flight later?!? Haha, wishful thinking.

I dream of going back to Spain to photograph another wedding in Madrid or Barcelona next time. If even the airport is this beautiful, you can only imagine how gorgeous the landscape outside is :)

I entertained myself by taking the photo below while Iberia lost our luggage. They are the WORST airlines ever. We had come over on a puddle jumper from Santander to Madrid and our luggage hadn’t fit on the plane so they left it in Santander along with a few other passengers’ suitcases. Seeing as how they knew this was happening, you’d think they would have informed us. Instead we waited for an hour outside the luggage carousel while the Iberia employees told us it would eventually show up. We kept harassing them, asking them if they could call to see if the suitcase had stayed behind in Santander. All four employees refused to do so and continued to repeat, “It’ll be here soon.” They finally called. After THREE HOURS of us waiting in the airport. Sure enough, there the suitcase was in Santander. Fortunately they hadn’t actually lost it but they did make us waste an entire half day.

But I was really only angry on principal. Because seriously, the airport was so pretty and so were the people. I was enjoying just watching the travelers and hanging out. If they would’ve had a Starbucks in the luggage pickup area, I probably would’ve stayed on even after they found our suitcase.

PS. Those black dots are feet, can you tell?

And just for fun, here’s a picture of me eating ice cream at a park somewhere. I dream of going back to that paradise…that ice cream bar was delicious!

I’ll get to more pictures of the actual touristing around later. I know this is weird jumping around in time like this, but it really is a shame that I never posted more about such a great trip and experience, so it’s about time I get on that! Do you still care? Or did my blogging about Spain ship sail long ago?

  5. Love the airport photos.

I’ve had my photo taken exactly where you’re standing, well, within 50yds. I went to Madrid about 6 yrs ago with work, and we wandered to that park – I’m sure it’s the same one, I recognise the shape of the fountain. How weird is that?

  8. That does look like a cool airport! I’m happy to hear about trips that happened a while ago – they’re still interesting to me because I haven’t heard the story yet, even if they’re not as fresh and new to you.

  9. Wow, you know, the Madrid airport was NOT like that when I was there in the 90s. I remember it being rather boring and stinking of cigarette smoke… WHAT a change!

  11. Wow. I never realized that an airport could be that cool. Then again I don’t really have a creative/artistic eye so even if I had been there, I would never have seen it through your eyes like I can now. Tres cool. I like pic #4 the best.
