Emily invited me to go with her to go see the Sarika Rodrik fashion show/oyster/wine tasting at The W in Santiago last week. I like fashion and I like wine — 2 out of 3 ain’t bad — so I was excited!

The invitation said to come any time after 7pm and we showed up at 7:30pm. They were just starting to pour the wine and serve the oysters, the models hadn’t started walking yet, and we grabbed two of the last spots available on an oddly uncomfortable couch. While we waited we compared shoes. Emily’s electric blue are from Brazil and my purple suedes are from Holland. Aren’t we well-traveled little wanna-be fashionistas? Unfortunately, my heels are now out of commission for the moment. Machasa chewed off the heel on one the other day.

I thought that the event was really well run. The guy giving the wine tasting was friendly, and more importantly, he was a generous pourer. Clearly, in my mind, excess of wine is what makes an event a success. When I read the invitation, I thought that a “desgustacion de ostras y vinos,” would be little tasting sips of wine, but these were full glass of delicious Viu Manent Sauvignon Blanc. I had two, of course. Who I am to turn down free fancy alcohol that I probably can’t afford on my own accord.

Emily sampled the oysters and said they were delicious. I contemplated putting my brave face on, and trying one like I did in Chiloe, but I was afraid of the making the Ew, Mommy, It’s So Gross! face, so I didn’t risk it.

Emily looked so cute, I had to record it for posterity.

And I’m trying to follow my own advice and stop worrying about how fat I am or how bad I look in pictures. It’s a learning process. As I sit here about to post this, I’ve scrolled down about ten times to criticize every aspect of me. Doesn’t help that I left the house without putting on makeup! I just forgot. I put my sunglasses on before I did a final mirror check and didn’t realize that I’d left my face completely nekkid!

This is my favoritest dress ever. It’s Alice + Olivia, my favoritest designers ever. Fancy that.

I took a couple quick videos so you can see what the “runway” looked like. I have to say, that while there were definitely some pretty dresses, I thought they were all really poorly accessorized. The shoes and necklaces didn’t go well with any of the dresses. I did like the last Victoria Beckham style dress that actually wasn’t Victoria Beckham at all, but Karl Lagerfeld.

  4. Hi Rita :) Thanks! And thanks on the shoes, Deidre.
I wonder why exactly I just stood there with my arms hanging…I obviously needed a little Andi hands-on-hips action. Kyle, don’t forget that you can blame anything you don’t like about that picture on me since I am borderline terrified just holding your camera, much less taking a picture with it. Such a fun little evening!

  5. Hahahaha, I’m glad I checked back on this post to see Em’s comment! I can’t believe my hands on the hips has become my signature pose, too funny.

  6. Kyle, you are always beautiful – inside and out! :) Sounds like it was a fun night and sorry about your shoe! but you can’t possibly be mad at that adorable dog! :)

P.S. I am the same way with pictures. I never let anyone take them of me at family gatherings, holidays, etc. It’s kinda sad, but I just cannot stand to see myself in photos. I’ve been this way since I was a teenager. And right now I’m supposed to be uploading one to a website for my bio, and I just can’t do it. I’ve been fiddling with it, but there’s not a powerful enough photo program to make me look completely different or just a bit better. ROFL
