I know I’m a little late, but better than never, right? Plus, I just did a gratitude post, so I wasn’t sure if I had anything to add to the subject.

Today, sitting around the turkey, I thought to myself, “Nothing makes you thankful for your health quite like having been dangerously close to becoming roadkill. The deadest flavor of roadkill, obviously.”

So you know, I’m still particularly grateful to be alive. I try hard not to take a single day for granted, though I don’t believe people who say, “I don’t take a single day for granted!” because that’s impossible.

But I’m also thankful for being the owner of my time.

I blog every day because I want to. Sometimes I’m tired and would rather go to bed, but even when it interferes with sleep, I still love doing it. Writing feels good.

I take pictures because I like the challenge of getting to know people and trying to show who they are via the photos. It’s hard enough to keep me on my toes and I find that enjoyable.

I can sleep in or stay up late if I want to, unless I have a meeting or something that I’ve scheduled in the morning. Keywords there being, “I’ve scheduled.”

I know right now that I’m actually perpetuating the myth that my life is glamorous and perfect. It’s really not. But I love it anyway.

If (when) I complain about any aspect of it, feel free to punch me in the face.

Care to share what things have made you thankful this Thanksgiving or what makes you thankful on any given day of the year?

  1. I guess I haven’t moved all that much in my life, but I do feel like since I turned eighteen I’ve started a new phase every few years, and almost nobody’s carried over from the previous one — no high school friends came to my college, no one I knew well at college came to Chile, no one I’d known in Chile came back with me, certainly no college friends at grad school, and now grad school is over and most of my friends there are gone… and so I am so grateful for the people who keep in touch, for my roommate from a long-ago summer camp who I still talk to, for the busy wedding photographer who always answers my emails :) , for my friend in the Peace Corps who sent me a letter from Mongolia. Sorry for rambling, but it’s a wonderful thing and makes me very happy to be alive!
