Rarely do you see a couple that gets married realize that the day isn’t ALL about them. I mean, it is about them. But it’s about other people too. And Cynthia and Adrian took that completely to heart. It was obvious that they valued the company of every. single. guest. that was with them on their wedding day. And they went out of their way to make sure their guests knew that.

My eyes welled up when they brought out special presents for their parents at the reception and presented the gifts to them in front of everybody. Then when I realized they had something special to give to others who had helped them with the wedding day as well, I thought, “Wow. This is something you do not see at every wedding.” Then they brought out presents for everybody who was there and went table to table to deliver them. I could barely believe it.

Then. THEN. Cynthia gave us gifts too AND not only that, but she had a little something something for my mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excessive use of exclamation points, I know, but there aren’t enough exclamation points on this keyboard for me to describe how absolutely touched I was. Cynthia had shipped some things to my mom because she needed a U.S. address and my mom sent them on to Chile. So she wanted to do something nice for her too.

This is like the time that Blair and Mike mailed us the DVD of the latest season of Scrubs because we had talked about how it’s our favorite show. Or when Leah and Nils sat us with their brother who lives in Scotland because they knew we would be traveling to Scotland eventually. To this day I still tear up and sometimes start crying when I think about what amazing acts of kindness those were. Ask Seba — sometimes I’ll randomly just start bawling while we’re in the car or walking down the street.

I think Cynthia and Adrian will also go down in history as two of the most thoughtful people we’ve ever met. I’ll probably forever get misty eyed when I recall that one marvelous couple WHO HAD A GIFT FOR MY MOM ON THEIR WEDDING DAY.

Seriously. Who does that? They’re amazing.

I’m not saying people should do something nice for us on their wedding day. I’m saying that it really does take a rare bride and groom to fully recognize the importance of their special day — to other people. Cynthia and Adrian completely sidestepped the whole Me! Me! Me! attitude and recognized that not only is a wedding about their love for one another, it’s about family.

I LOVE this picture. One of my favorite ceremony pictures ever taken.

See what I mean about family? Cynthia and Adrian have a special relationship with their parents and with each other’s parents. It shows. This is Cynthia hugging Adrian’s dad.

And this is Cynthia’s mom hugging Adrian’s mom.

Family portraits can be so fun! I don’t know why some photographers hate them!

Yes, Cynthia, I paparazzi’ed you into the bathroom :)

Chihuly!

This is when they were giving out the gifts I talked about.

I always post bouquet tosses, so I figured Adri and the garter toss should get some love too!

This last photo is another of my favorites. I love how everyone else is partying and Cynthia and Adri are totally in their own world.

  7. I like this set a lot. I cant quite describe why, but I think sometimes I tend to pay attention to the location a lot, and enjoy the photos because of the background, props, etc… but this set is really creative entirely because of the people and actions in it. Its obvious it was a really beautiful day and a really sweet couple. I love her expression in the bathroom shot, and …celophane shadow=neat.

  12. That is soo sweet.

Inspector Climate and I talk about this a lot – I am not sure we’d do a wedding at all but we know that our families would like to see it and that it actually isn’t really about us.

    Love the garter toss photo!

  16. I think a lot of photographers get very caught up with shooting one particular style or without even knowing capture things the same way each time. You have a very unique ability to transform you creativity depending on the couple and the energy of the day. For this reason you are one of my favorite photographers and I continue to be inspired by you work.
