Patagonia is a beautiful place. Daniella and Panky are beautiful people. I knew going into it that this wedding would be epic.

And it did not disappoint. My expectations were extremely high. They were blown out of the water.

So, let’s start with the facts. Panky is a pilot for Lan.  He never stops laughing. And he has parents who are so kind that when you meet them you immediately understand how Panky became the good-to-the-core person that he is.

Daniella owns her own business. She talks a little bit less than Panky but when she speaks she throws the full weight of meaning behind her words. She wears her heart on her sleeve. And she too has amazing parents — parents who have been married for 30 years, and have worked side by side their entire life together, and have survived. What an example! It gives me hope that Seba and I might make it out alive :)

When Seba and I first met with Daniella and Panky to talk about the possibilities of shooting their wedding, we left and the first thing I said was, “I like them. Daniella comes across as really genuine and Panky is just so happy!”

And then during their ceremony, Panky took the microphone and told everyone in attendance that he loved Daniella for her honesty and the way she sees the world. And Daniella stood up and cried when she said that being happy was so easy when we were kids, but that somewhere along the way she’d forgotten how to be happy. And Panky taught her how easy it was to be happy again.

By that point, we were all crying.

An honest person. A happy person. Simple, but beautiful and rare qualities in a person. I love that they appreciate those things about each other.

I climbed up a tree to get a great dress shot.

Love the contrast of this photo. A totally glamorous woman putting on her makeup with a giant semi-truck in the background.

I love these next two. There’s just something about them.

Moms. Waiting.

Panky was so nervous until he saw Daniella. And Daniella was so nervous until she made it down the aisle. So cute how they immediately relaxed once they were with one another.

How sweet how the two men of Daniella’s life are adoring her in this next photo.

In keeping with my “Why I shoot the way I shoot,” posts, I’ll explain this photo a little bit. I have other pictures from up the same angle, but taken from in front of Daniella’s brother holding the umbrella so I have shots of just Daniella and Panky head on. However, when I took a step back and included part of the umbrella in the shot, I realized that it told so much more of the story. It started raining about two seconds before Daniella walked down the aisle. Everybody was getting wet. Daniella’s parents standing next to her look a little cold. But you can tell that from the way Daniella and Panky are looking at each other, that the rain and cold is the last thing on their minds.

And then it was sunny and raining at the same time. I like the weather in Patagonia. It’s just like Michigan!

Panky thanked Daniella’s parents for bringing such a wonderful person into this world. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

I like this. It’s like a secret marriage handshake.

Yeah family formals! Not boring.

And I decided to do a party collage because there were too many funny party pics not to post! Safe to say that everyone had the time of their life at this amazing wedding!

Also, I don’t have any of the other datos for this wedding, but I have to give a shot out to Paulo Russo, the banquetero. He did an incredible job. The food and carpa and decorations all had to be brought down in boat. He even brought down his waiters by plane. It had to have been a MASSIVE undertaking. But he wasn’t stressed at all. In fact, once the wedding started, he was strolling around laughing and having a good time like the rest of us — and really, why not? He did a hell of a job and organizationally, by that point, nobody needed his help because he had worked it all out beforehand. I was REALLY impressed.

  1. I teared up with the story/pictures also…glad to see I wasn’t the only one. The groom’s smile is priceless (and apparently inherited).

  6. Love. First of all, I think a person named Panky is required to be happy all the time. I would be if that were my name! Second, I love the cow picture. Third, I love the picture of the mothers’ hands while they are waiting. There is just something so typical about that hand position and I think you captured it beautifully. And the collage at the end was really fun.

  16. So did you climb up the tree to hang the bride’s dress there too? I can’t believe she trusted you (or anyone else for that matter) to hang it that far up in a tree.

Very cool shoe shot . . it took me a second glimpse to actually recognize it for what it was. The shot makes for some very interesting shapes.
