Donde He Estado en USA??

We’re playing with some new bloggity blog software and playing I mean, “We have no idea what the hell we’re doing.” Because of this, Seba accidentally published his guest post for today. Meaning, if you still want to ask a question, I’ll be answering them mañana instead. That’s tomorrow for you non-Spanish speakers.

Seba’s guest post is below. My translation to English is in bold — because nobody really likes Italics.

Oh! And WAIT. I almost forgot. We installed a new comment system today! The comment system was something that many people mentioned in the survey, so finding a solution has been on my to-do list ever since. You all said you liked it better when comments were threaded and I could respond to them or other commenters could reply directly to their comment. But nobody liked Disqus because it was too hard to use. So after switching back from Disqus to WordPress, we’re trying something new that will allow comment threading again. PLEASE let me know if you like it. I really appreciate your feedback.

In the last couple of days, since we’ve been at Kyle’s mom’s house, we’ve had a bit more time to catch up on various things that have been falling behind for a while now.

One of my jobs has been going back through the more than 450 posts that there are on this blog to make sure they don’t have mistakes or weird characters (which was a result of switching hosting — almost all the posts have $%^#& in between words). One of the posts that I checked today was the one in which Kyle wrote about all the places she’d been in Santiago, so I thought I’d do my own version of the places I’ve been in the U.S. Personally, I feel like I have barely seen any of the U.S. but you all can be the judge of that at the end of this post. So that it’s easier, I’ll go by state:

Florida

We normally fly into Miami because it’s the cheapest airport to get to from South America. The first time that I came to the U.S. I was in Tampa for about three months, at Kyle’s college. Now we stay in Miami because that’s where Kyle’s dad lives. I’ve been in Ft. Lauderdale, Delray Beach, South Beach and Orlando once for an NBA game.

Georgia

Ahhh, hermosos recuerdos.

We’ve drive through a couple times from south to north when we’ve done a road trip. The only part where we we stopped was in Atlanta. We did a photo session, we visited the aquarium, I got lost in the city for hours and Kyle got FURIOUS* with me. Ahhh, beautiful memories.

Emphasis Kyle’s.

Tennessee

Hemos visitado, sacado fotos, etc.

Just like Georgia, we also drove through going from south to north. On our first trip we made our first stop in Nashville to try typical Southern food (although I still don’t understand how Nashville is considered “the South”). On other trips we’ve gone to take photos. I’ve been in Franklin where our good friend Molly lives. We’ve visited, taking pictures, etc.

Kentucky

Sadly, I’ve never had the opportunity to go to the Kentucky Derby, but oh well. I’ve driven through Louisville as part of my 30+ hours driving up north.

Indiana

Same as Kentucky. I’m awaiting my opportunity to go to the Indy 500. I’ve been through the city (or at least pretty close) but nothing more than that.

Illinois.

Aca basicamente he estado en chicago.

Here, I’ve basically been in Chicago. I’ve driven through 4 or 5 times and we’ve had to fly through at least 4 more — visiting and photographing friends. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have taken an architectural tour of the city. I 100% recommend doing so if you have the opportunity.

Michigan

I’ve drive from Florida to Grand Rapids. One of the most interesting things there is in GR is Art Prize. It’s an art exhibit that they do in the streets and it lasts about a week. Kyle’s mom actually lives in Wyoming, but GR is the closest big city.

New York

Solo he visitado New York.

I’ve only visited New York. The first time we went for the day and we saw as much as we could. The second time we had more time and we went to Brooklyn, we walked from one side of Manhattan to the other, we saw China Town, Little Italy, etc. It’s definitely a very interesting and diverse city. Kyle would like to live there, but in my opinion, it’s a little overwhelming. The last time we we went we did all the typical touristy things like Wall Street, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty, Central Park, etc.

California

I’ve been to San Francisco twice, for sessions and a wedding. We’re going back in September. Kyle and I have talked a lot about the city. At first, we thought we would love it, but the truth is, it didn’t really do it for us. In my opinion, it’s way too cold, there’s always fog and the wind is ridiculous. I thought that the climate would be similar to Tampa which might be way I froze the first time that I went. The first time we went just for work, but the second time around we were able to visit the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, like good little tourists. Coincidentally, we also stumbled across a block party for Saint Patrick’s Day.

Colorado

We have been only once, for Molly’s wedding. We flew into Denver and then drove to Breckenridge. The scenery is definitely gorgeous, worth seeing. I don’t do particularly well in low temperatures and also the altitude can definitely effect your senses. Separate note: We visited Buffalo Bill’s tomb. :)

Texas

Wink :P

I’ve only only had a layover in Dallas a couple of times, but I’m dying to visit Austin, just in case anyone wants to invite us. Wink :P

Wisconsin

Hey Heather!

We went to Wisconsin, driving from Michigan, for Nick and Heather’s wedding. We were there during the summer so the climate was beautiful, although it did rain during the wedding. At least they say that’s good luck. Hey Heather!

Not cool, Kyle.

As you can see, it’s not very much. There are a lot of other places I’d really like to see in the U.S. — some are super typical and touristy and others I just want to see out of curiosity. I hope that someday we have enough time to drive from East to West. I think that could be really fun as long as Kyle brings her driver’s license. This current trip is the second time that she’s left it in Chile and I’ve had to drive everywhere. Not cool, Kyle.

If you have any other suggestions of where we MUST visit, leave it in the comments please. I want to know where you all have been!
