As you saw yesterday, Buenos Aires is pretty fricken sweet. I’m not saying I want to live there or anything. However, I definitely feel that it’s a place everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Calling it The Paris of South America is pretty silly because it’s absolutely nothing like Paris. But I’d say that it has enough merit to stand on it’s own as The Buenos Aires of South America. Isn’t that enough?

I took a lot of pictures of the traffic because I really wanted to show just how busy and chaotic the city is, but none of them do it justice. When the cars are clogged up in front of you, you can’t really take a picture, because you know, then there’s a car up in front of you blocking your view.

But quite honestly, crossing the street there scares me. As someone who has been run over in the past, it’s a touchy subject. And Buenos Aires drivers do not seem to watch out for pedestrians AT ALL. Or red lights for that matter. It’s frightening. I counted, and on the way from the bus stop to our hotel, our taxi driver ran two red lights flat out and a stoplight.

The subte, or metro as it’s called in Chilean Spanish, is one of the cheapest ways to get around the city. It costs ONE PESO! Holy hell, that’s like 25 cents!!! The government subsidizes it so that the prices don’t go up to high.

I got chased after I took the next three photos because you’re not allowed to take pics of a subway station in Buenos Aires. You can’t in Santiago either. Weird.

These pictures were taken right near the Casa Rosada (the Argentine version of La Moneda in Chile or The White House in the U.S.) at Plaza Mayo. I was trying to take a photograph that would give you some perspective on how wide the streets really are, but instead all I did was capture the beautiful light. Oh well. Beaaautiful autumn light.

This last photo was the view from our hotel room at Hotel Moreno. More on them tomorrow!

  1. You can’t take photos of public transport? Really? Why is that?

I love the autumn light! It’s spectacular.

  2. The light is beautiful, and I especially love the pic of the two buildings side by side with the clock in the middle. And the coca cola awning. Maybe Paris is the Buenos Aires of Europe? ;)

  3. Absolutely love your photos but personally I didn’t like Buenos Aires, maybe we weren’t there long enough but I just felt the streets and buildings were crumbling away and uncared for…my first impression anyways, there’s always next time. Great shots.

  5. Love that picture right after the three subway ones. Love the position of the sun. Big cities are my thing. I love to get away from it and be amongst nature but cities are my weakness. :) I love these photos.
