As y’all already know, we loved the Dirty South. See how I did that there? I’m practicing my accent in case we ever move.

Sadly, we didn’t get a chance to see too much of Richmond! I was just talking to a good friend about that the other day — it’s the eternal struggle we have — do we stay more time in the places we go to shoot weddings and take advantage of being in all these cool places? Or do we come home sooner to be back with our doggies? We always wish we had more time, but I know we’d also regret it if we did. I don’t think that’s a problem that really has a solution.

We had desperately wanted to go to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. and in Richmond while we were in the area, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. There just aren’t enough hours in the day!

However, we did luck out and get a chance to enjoy dinner with the beautiful Caroline, who was a total trooper and came and hung out with us even though she had just arrived FROM BALI and was totally jet-lagged! And then the lovely Jennifer and Dieter were also kind enough to drive down and meet up with us for a late lunch as well! I feel so fortunate that we have clients/friends that we love to hang out with and actually love to hang out with us back :)

Given the chance for sight seeing or hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a while, I’ll always choose people. That means I don’t have a ton more pictures, and they’re all from later on at night because we never had time during the day to go out on a picture mission!

I thought this man looked very dapper and Richmond-y so I asked him for a photo. He was reluctant and said no, but then he asked me why I wanted to take his picture and I answered, “Because you look really nice. And I’m from Michigan. We don’t have people as stylish as you up there.” And he laughed and agreed. Flattery will get you everywhere :)

Seba saw these dudes hoisting the sail in front of this building and said we should stop and take a picture. I think we probably drove by them several times while we were in town and I had never even noticed them. My full name should be Kyle Unobservant Hepp. When I was little, my dad used to take my brother and I out hiking. My brother would always spot wildlife and birds and what not and my dad would say to him, “Good eye, Kelsey! GOOD eye!”

Oh how I longed to hear those words spoken to me :) I never did though. I never spotted anything. I could probably step on an alligator and not notice.

  1. So glad you loved my home state. There is a kick ass Cuban restaurant in RVA next time you’re there.

  3. Wow, what a place. I love it when you take pictures of the places you go to for work. You really capture the feeling of being there so wonderfully.

  4. Kyle, the details of your photographs seem to be, contrary to your assertion of being unobservant, detail oriented and, of course, GORGEOUS.
