Before I say anything, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank Marianne Taylor, a London wedding photographer, for recommending Virginie and Pierre to me. Check out her site. You won’t be disappointed — she is ridiculously talented!

I’m not sure but this might be the most amount of photos I’ve ever posted for one wedding. And you can actually see even more images by clicking the last picture to watch the slideshow.

The sheer quantity I’m sure has to do with the fact that we shot for almost 13 hours. However, it was way harder to cull than normal because at a French wedding, you actually photograph two ceremonies! They do a civil ceremony in the morning. And then in this case the bride’s family went to their home and hosted a lunch, while the groom’s family celebrated with a lunch at a restaurant. And in the evening they did a symbolic ceremony with a cocktail party, dinner and a reception. So there were way too many important moments to get this down to a normal sized blog post!.

I was a little nervous going into this wedding. I don’t speak the language, neither does Seba, even though he has a French passport and is part French. And obviously France, aside from the language barrier, is just a completely different culture. I was a bit stressed about as to whether my humor and way of interacting with the couple would translate or not. I knew that regardless the pictures would come out good, even if we didn’t talk to each other much. But, I think the overall experience for both bride and photographer is far better when you feel you have a friend at your side.

And that’s how I did feel. Virginie and Pierre welcomed us with open arms. They were warm and friendly and absolutely wonderful. Virginie speaks perfect English. And Pierre is just like Seba — he understands English just fine and he could speak if he wanted to. He chooses not to.

Obviously we couldn’t understand either of the ceremonies. I know I heard something about love and trust and respect and I knew when they said, “I do!’ But other than that, I didn’t get a word. It didn’t matter though. The guests were all laughing so hard every time Virginie and Pierre took the microphone and spoke. Their friends eyes teared up when they did readings. The shared hugs and looks with their family were long and sincere. I understand what a giant smile means. And when Virginie and Pierre spoke to each other there was so much love in their voices, it would have come across in any language.

Pierre works in television so the majority of the guests at the wedding came armed and dangerous with their cameras!

I love this next photo. It captures Virginie’s joie de vivre so well.

One expects French people to be amazingly stylish and well-dressed. Vivi did not disappoint. I absolutely LOVED both her dresses.

Oh my gosh, J’ADORE this photo!!!! Vivi’s dress was so big that she could barely fit in the car. She kept joking that if it rained at the ceremony all the guests could take shelter underneath her skirt :)

The second wedding ceremony was held in the beautiful French countryside, right outside Lyon, where Vivi and Pierre grew up.

A little bit of chaos while Virginie is coming down the aisle — even Grandma needed to get a picture!

So, so beautiful, Vivi.

The first song in the slideshow is the song that they are singing here.

Their wedding vows made me cry. Even though I had absolutely no clue what they were saying :)

Vivi and Pierre, you are both amazing. I hope these photos make you happy.

  2. Eric, Seba said the little kid banged that camera around like nobody’s business :) I think I would’ve cried instead of being able to take a picture if I saw that kind of camera abuse happening!

  14. Lots of goodness. Man, I LOVE her dresses, particularly the back of the first. Gorgeous. And I am a sucker for little kids struggling to hold a DSLR. I wish I’d had it that good. Great job and a fantastic day.
