Cours des Loges was gracious enough to host us for a few nights in their BEAUTIFUL hotel. It is such a gorgeous place. And to me, the coolest thing is that the style of decoration actually does an amazing job of capturing the essence of Lyon with the old brick and the pastel colors and the style of architecture. It’s pretty incredible.

The manager, Franck, is from Lyon. The story is that he was living abroad, working for other hotels at the time, and he met the owner of Cours des Loges. When they talked, she knew she had to convince to come work for her hotel instead. So she told him to come back to his hometown and he did. Now Franck walks by his old school on the way to work every day. I love that sense of connection with the place.

My absolute favorite thing about the hotel was just that it is so true to Lyon. It hasn’t sacrificed comfort at all, but it doesn’t bow to the trends of uber modern design. It has kept the same style that belongs in this city.

The rooms have an old elegance to them, without being stuffy or pretentious.

When we arrived they had delicious chocolates, fruit and wine waiting in our room!

Mmmm, yummy croisants and pain au chocolate for breakfast!

So this is the interior patio. See what I mean? It is STUNNING. The whole building used to be apartments back in the day with an open air shared space in the middle. The hotel did put a glass roof on so it’s basically a giant sunroom.

The old stairways and twists and turns in the building make you feel like you’re lost in another era.

This is the breakfast area downstairs.

The spa and pool area is really cool looking! I love the bright colors.

Franck was very proud of the gardens and terrace areas, as well he should be. He was saying that in this part of town there is almost no space for anything green to grow. So it’s especially nice to have this little patch of nature inside in the hotel.

From certain points, you can see out onto the rooftop of the hotel and other nearby buildings. Franck also told us about how the local kids were causing problems because they would climb up onto the roofs and run around or whatever, and now the hotel has to do repairs.

Isn’t it a beautiful place?

Disclaimer: According to the FTC rules I have to tell you that the Cours des Loges sponsored our hotel stay. However, please note — I am not being forced to blog about this and I wouldn’t say any of it if it weren’t true.

  1. OMG Kyle, this hotel is BEAUTIFUL!

But more importantly, how much cheese did you eat?

We are leaving for France in 1 week for 1 month and I plan to eat a small country’s yearly ration of cheese. I am trying to use other people as a measureing stick for normalcy, so tell me…how much is TOO much?

Robin, Kyle doesn’t eat cheese because she is a weirdo, but as a fellow cheese lover I want to reassure you that there is no such thing as too much. Go wild.

  18. Oh, god, I just adore places that still hold that archaic vibe. The architecture of this place looks absolutely gorgeous. I’d love to stay at a place like this … though I’d probably be so fascinated by my surroundings, I’d never want to go outside and explore!
