Few things are more frightening than shooting another photographer. The stress only grows when said other photographer not only is extremely talented, but also is a person who runs her business in way that you really admire. Add to the anxiety when said photographer once recommended a bride singing your praises so highly that the bride wrote and then hired us after a grand total of like three emails saying, “Eliza has told me everything I need to know about you. I’d like to book.”

To be honest, I was pretty nervous to meet Liz of Eliza Claire Photography. When you’ve known someone online for a while there’s always that little voice in the back of your head asking, “Will we get along as good in real life as we do on the internet?” Well, we did get along in real life just as well as we do on the internet. In fact, we got along to the tune of OOPS, all of sudden we made Liz and Rich like two hours late to go attend to their scheduled responsibilities back home. I pretended that I was an (extra) slow eater, but really I just wanted to talk and talk and talk and never let Liz leave my side because I loved hanging out with her.

Liz and I have known each other through a photography forum for a few years now, and honestly, I feel a tremendous kinship with her because I’ve watched her business grow from fledgling to flourishing. Sharing her joy as she does what she loves and makes it her life’s work has been incredible. Even as Eliza Claire Photography has exploded in popularity, she hasn’t changed the way she treats her clients — she goes above and beyond, not only to give them great pictures, but to care about them as human beings. Like I said, I have nothing but a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Liz.

Photographers say this far to often for it to be true every time, but I’m writing this and meaning every stroke of the type on my keyboard — it was an honor to shoot Liz and Rich.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention this little fact. That reminds me. Liz has a husband. His name is Rich. He’s pretty awesome too. Rich, when you and Liz come to Chile then I’ll write a whole post about you :)

We did the photo shoot at the Southbank Centre in London and it was SO COOL. There were amazing lines and colors and backdrops everywhere. I went a little nuts.

We took lots of big architectural type shots with the 24mm t/s. It was the perfect lens for this place!

Awww, so cute together.

I think these next two might be my favorites from the day. I freaking love love LOVE the yellow and the lines and the Liz and Rich being adorable inside all the yellow and lines.

So I was saying it was a shame that the photos wouldn’t be a surprise to Liz and Rich at all. Since they’re photographers they could see what we were doing and pretty much visualize how everything will come out.

Except for this one. This one is a surprise for Liz :)

I am also a tiiiiiiny little bit obsessed with this next one.

And this. OBSESSED.

These birds and the fake turf wall were just so random, but so cool!

Actually yeah. Save the best for last. For real this time — these two are my FAVORITES. I LOVE how these last two came out!

  8. OMG I love these! Kyle, it was so great meeting you and Seba at last and I did NOT want to leave to pick up the kids from school either! Although perhaps less scary for me meeting you as I read every blog post you’ve ever written so feel I know you pretty well (stalker alert!!)

Looking at these, I keep shrieking “OMG that’s such a Kyle Hepp photo, and WE’RE in it!” (it’s 6am, Rich isn’t appreciating the shrieking!). More than just being in a Kyle and Seba photo though, we’re so *us* in a K&S photo-we look so relaxed! I should mention that I hate getting my photos taken, but it was so irrelevant on the day, I just loved spending time with you, and really pretty much forgot about the camera fear!

I seriously can’t thank you enough. You’re both amazing! See you in Santiago for your shoot!

  10. The South Bank is such a fantastic, eclectic, bold environment. I love shooting there. I’ve never come close to extracting this level of meaning from the place though. Not that I needed convincing of the notion but having access to a great environment, subjects and the technology to render it all are far less important parts of the equation than the mind-set of the photographer. It’s fully proven here. Not that you didn’t have that great environment, subjects and technology (*adds 24 T/S to shopping list* :~) but as ever it’s a pleasure to see your creative mind working in top gear.
