I am writing all these travel posts so out of order. By the time you see this we will no longer be in the U.K. But I haven’t shared enough from Scotland yet. It was far to awesome to be crammed into one short post!

Anyways, even the days are out of order. These are a few photos combining our last day and one of our first days in Edinburgh.

Upon Robin’s recommendation, we decided to do a City of the Dead tour. I am SO glad she suggested that we check out the tours of Edinburgh’s underground passageways and graveyard because otherwise I would have never done it. I would’ve thought that it was either too expensive, too cheesy or too cold. It was definitely too cold, but it was not the other things. This tour was the perfect combination of scary and silly.

First of all, it gave us a good excuse to take pretty pictures of the city at night.

This guy was our tour guide. He was beyond charismatic. He was absolutely fascinating. The tour had the potential to be so cheesy it would smell all the way from here to France and back. But, the guy told the ghost and haunted stories in a way that made you believe them because he believed them.

Alright, going back to daylight — you can stop shaking in your boots now, I know those night pictures were scary for you.

The Edinburgh Cathedral is the church right on The Royal Mile. You don’t have to pay to get in. And it is so beautiful. To be quite honest, I’m not that big on visiting churches. I get bored because they start to look the same after a while. You’ve seen one seven hundred year old European cathedral, you’ve seen ‘em all. But I thought that Edinburgh Cathedral was stunning.

Being inside this church actually made me wish I had read up on the history of it.

Francine and Andre. Even their backsides are cute :)

  1. What stunning photos. Although I find the statue with the flowers on it creepier than the night photos :)

  3. Whoa, I absolutely love the photo of the cathedral from behind the angel’s wings. What a great shot! And the tomb/statue that held an old bouquet of flowers and a note. Pretty amazing.

  7. Oh, Kyle, I desperately wanted to do the City of the Dead/Underground tours while I was in Edinburgh. Unfortunately I was travelling alone and … you know, chicken. I didn’t want to do that spooky stuff on my own. That graveyard’s supposed to be the most haunted place in the UK!
