Oh those silly Parisians. How I love them. We finally found our common ground. They have no rhythm! But they still love to dance! Just like me!

We were in town for Bastilles Day, which is French style 4th of July type holiday and the night these videos were taken, Ashley, Leo, Jamie and I, plus a few more friends, made our way down to a plaza for some lovely champagne and people watching. There was a DJ doing his best to bring our all shapes and sizes onto the dance floor street. The man would go from 80′s music, to French techno, to merengue, all in the span of about 10 minutes.

The song I’m dancing to in this video is Suavamente by Elvis Crespo. I first heard it when I was here on study abroad as a middle schooler. I fell in love instantly and wanted to learn how to shake it like a Latina. Unfortunately, 15 years later, I still haven’t learned the art. But it’s fun trying :)

Big thanks to Leo for filming this for me. And big thanks to Jamie for dancing with me! I asked if she would do it for the blog and she agreed, when everybody else denied me. It’s not as easy as one might think, convincing other people to publicly humiliate themselves alongside me.

However, I didn’t realize that Jamie actually has legit rhythm and totally makes me look bad! Jamie, you bastard!

And in case me dancing on the streets of Paris wasn’t already painful enough for you to watch, I have one more video of random French folks dancing who kind make me look good. And by look good, I mean, ever so slightly less bad.

If you think dancing in the streets anywhere, anytime looks like fun, maybe you should start searching for some late deals on flights and find a way to get to France.

  1. Wait, I’m sorry…blog and real life collision! I used to hang out with Jamie in San Francisco (I met her through my friend Nicole, with whom she lived) and you guys know each other too? IRL? The Internet is TOO SMALL.

  7. So funny!! You’ve gotten right to the root of why I often won’t dance at weddings — the dreaded video!!

    • Haha, I don’t care…everybody makes fools of themselves at weddings…it’s natural :)

  8. I tried to comment on this before, but the internet out in Kentucky hates me, I think. Bottom line is: You are wonderful and you make my day.
