We were in Michigan this month for a quickie visit home because of my brother’s wedding! No, we didn’t photograph it…we were there as guests!

We stayed at my mom’s house for the majority of our stay, but then when the opportunity presented itself for us to get away and enjoy a couple nights at a beautiful, funky hotel in downtown G.R., we jumped on it. My mom is 1 of 7 brothers and sisters, and many of those were invading during wedding week.

In the past couple years, I’ve really started to feel a new found appreciation for downtown Grand Rapids. I feel like it’s gotten way cooler than it used to be and every time we go back, I like it more! 10 years ago, I can’t imagine that an uber modern hotel like City Flats would’ve done well, but now they have a whole new audience for it.  The hotel was filled with lots of young, well dressed people the whole time we were there. Even the guy who checked us in was a snazzy dude from Germany! We really enjoyed our stay at City Flats and it was fun to see this whole new side to GR. Check out the pics from our stay below:

The bar and lounge area were especially cool. And at night they really filled up!

I love this shot!

Our room was really cute and had gorgeous huge windows. My favorite thing is when a hotel room is nice and bright and this one fit the bill!

I loved my boudoir session hair so much I had to take one more picture of me all done up!

The rooms were very simple and clean, I really like the style.

Look how pretty downtown Grand Rapids is! A little grey during the winter, sure, but still a great place to hang out.

Thank you to City Flats for having us for such a wonderful stay!

Disclaimer: According to the FTC rules I have to tell you that City Flats sponsored our hotel stay. However, please note — I am not being forced to blog about this and I wouldn’t say any of it if it weren’t true.

  3. Oh, thank you for posting about this! We live in Chicago, but have friends/family in Michigan, and have been meaning to get up there. I’m kind of hopeless when it comes to finding hotels, because I’m so used to having insanely awesome AirBNB options when we travel to the coasts. Doesn’t seem like the smaller midwestern cities have caught onto AirBNB yet, though!

  4. I love hotels. They are professionally decorated and have lots of neat light so they are kind of an awesome thing for photographers.

  13. What a cool hotel! I love the look of that chair painting or whatever it is – thought it was made of Legos when I first looked at it.

  19. The hotel looks FABO! So so clean and modern. And you are one sexy lady. I know that you don’t usually go heavy on the eye makeup, but WOW. The smoky eye is the sh*t!

  24. Nothing like that in Adelaide. Trendy, modern, but not ultra-modern.
