Yesterday was such a special day! Cami and Ianiv got engaged! This was an engagement session like, for REAL.

It was SO FRICKEN EXCITING. Seriously, it was as exciting as shooting an actual wedding and I was ten times more nervous. First when Ianiv and I were exchanging emails to set it all up, I was really worried that Cami would randomly open his computer and his gmail would be open and she’d see one from me and it would all be over. Then, once we got to the park where Ianiv had everything planned, I was terrified that she would see me, Seba, or Ianiv’s friends who were there helping set up and recognize us! I didn’t want anything to be ruined. Ianiv put so much hard work into this incredibly romantic surprise for his now FUTURE WIFE . He had gotten every last detail ready, right down to the code language he was going to use with his friend if they had to call each other while Ianiv was already on his date.

So here is the plan — Ianiv would take Cami to the park to celebrate their anniversary. She’d think that was it. Then they’d walk over by the lake around dusk and Ianiv’s friends would have a million candles lit and she’d see it and be surprised. We’d take pictures of her being surprised. We’d say we wanted to go out on the lake to take more pictures and then Ianiv would ask for her hand in marriage.

In the end, Cami started getting antsy. Ianiv’s friend Pancho called him and said, “Hey buddy, what time are celebrating your birthday?” Ianiv said, “8:20pm,” and Pancho said, “Nah, nobody will be able to get there so soon after work, better make it more like 9pm.” That was how they communicated if the lights were all set up. So Ianiv told us to come on down and act like we were the big surprise, there to photograph them. It was adorable, Cami got all emotional when she saw us and started telling Ianiv over and over, “Awww, I love you, you’re the best, I just love you so much!” And she didn’t even know what was yet to come!

We took a few pictures of them then suggested we go take some pictures by the lake. And then photographed them walking up to the lake and during/after the proposal.

Ianiv said, “If she comes with her fingernails painted, it’s because she KNOWS.”

She did not.

Even if she had, from Cami’s screams and giggles and overflowing happiness, I knew there was no way this was anything other than a total shock to her!

This really was one of the coolest days we’ve had the honor of being a part of. Ianiv, thank you for including us in your amazing plan!

And to both of you, Cami and Ianiv, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We are thrilled for you!

The entire thing was planned at Parque Intercomunal de la Reina. It’s a gorgeous park with a lovely view of the mountains.

Once Ianiv’s friends started setting up the lights, the ducks started trying to eat them :)

And then a few caught on fire. Oops!

We went down to take a few pictures of Ianiv and Cami. The next two are blurry but I actually really like them this way, it kind of adds to their charm and spontaneity.

Ianiv and Cami are such a beautiful couple.

Here they were walking up to the lake. Cami was already loving what she thought was her big surprise. Seriously, how cute are they?!

When she walked up, this is what she saw. Stunning.

Joy, looking at it from a distance!

We got out onto the boats. By this time it was getting dark and I’m sure Ianiv was getting nervous. So was I! In a park with no street lights, no nothing, it was pitch black and I couldn’t even see them with my own two eyes, let alone with the camera!

This is right when Ianiv asked Cami to marry him.

Of course she said yes! Now she’s all blinged out. Gorgeous ring!

Calling her mom, first thing, of course!

Cami really could not believe what had just happened, it was so sweet!

Yay! Cami and Ianiv are now officially engaged!!!

  7. Love it so much! It’s amazing how the simple things are often the most beautiful. Paper lanterns floating on water and a paddle boat…what girl wouldn’t want that a part of her proposal?

  28. Kyle, I’m so madly and completely in love, vicariously through these images. If anyone ever needed a testament to the power of photography to capture that “which cannot be captured”, well, you did it, my friend. Wow.

  29. So adorable! I love when men put their heart into the proposal.
Question though, is the ring on that finger cuz it hasn’t been sized yet? Or is this a custom I’m just ignorant of?

    Comment by Melissa Jean — November 27, 2011 @ 10:55 pm

    • Yes! it was a little too big for the actual ring finger and she didn’t want to lose it in the lake so she left it on the middle finger for the time being :)
