We came down to Frutillar last week for Stanley and Valentina’s wedding. Now, like many of their guests, we’re still stranded here! Something about Lan and not being able to fly because of volcanic ash and yadiyadiyaya. Interestingly enough all the other airlines continue to operate without any problems. We were supposed to leave Tuesday night and now we are not able to fly out until Friday morning (assuming the volcanic ash in the air has cleared).

I can think of worse places to be stuck. At the moment we’re actually in Puerto Montt. I know Puerto Montt has a bad rap, but I personally think it’s quite nice. Our hotel has a great view of the ocean and the weather has been sunny and pretty warm. Today we drove a little ways down the very beginning of the Carretera Austral to check it out.

When we arrived last Thursday I was so excited! It’d been a month since we’d last taken a trip and about three months since we’d traveled anywhere other than Michigan.

As soon as we stepped off of the plane and into the Aeropuerto de Tepual, I felt that jolt of travel excitement surge through me and instantly started snapping away!

The South of Chile really is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, I can’t get enough!

Frutillar, Chile.

I love the South of Chile. I love the people who come from it. I love everything about it. The end. No wait, not the end. More coming soon.
