Two trips to the U.S. ago, we attended a Fershop.

Fer is my favorite photographer IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. We are planning on doing a vow renewal ceremony later on this year and you better believe that I am going to do whatever it takes to have him come and photograph it. He’s amazing. Fer’s photos hit me so hard, like a suckerpunch to the gut every time I look at them. His pictures are beautiful, but above all else, they’re powerful. Plain and simple, I love his work.

And attending his workshop was so good for me creatively.

I left feeling inspired and renewed. I think we’ve taken our work to a new level. Even the simple critique he did at the end of the workshop changed the way I look at my own photos and the way I see things when I’m composing. That’s not to say I want to be a Fer copycat. I’ll still do things my way. But he taught me to be more deliberate about about certain things in the way I shoot. We also watched him take the most boring suburban setting and make it edgy. Impossible. Yet he managed. That challenges me to work even harder when I’m working to make places look amazing, regardless of the circumstances.

Really, the most important thing I think I took away from the Fershop is that I can’t be afraid to go balls to the walls for every single shoot/wedding we do. Dream big…do bigger.

Not to mention, I got to hang out with a ton of other cool photographers while there — Jason, Emily and Bobby, Kat and Jess (both of whom I already knew and loved from before), Shipra, Shari and a few more whose websites I sadly do not know. Being around that much talent is simply inspiring.

The workshop was an incredible experience and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone thinking about going. It’s only been two months I feel like I’m already a better photographer because of it.

  11. These are super cool. I like how off-centered the couple is in all of them, even at an angle to each other.

  15. I love finding people who inspire me like that. How awesome that you’ll be having a vow renewal – I think I remember you telling me, ironically, that you and Seba don’t have many artsy photos from your own wedding – so that’ll be sweet to have a second go at it!

  17. I think your photography is fantastic and such a great reminder that photography is an art! It’s so easy to forget in this day and age of digital cameras… and just reading an entry like this reminds me again of this! To be able to capture a moment and to highlight it through a certain lens, through a specific perspective is a gift! You are definitely gifted and it’s exciting to know that you are growing even greater in it! I can’t wait to watch! :)
